Should I get a job or prepare for CAT

I was recently laid off from my company, and now I am considering doing an MBA instead of finding another job. I am an average student with a GEM profile. I know it is generally very tough for candidates with my profile to crack IIMs, so I am planning to study for the CAT while joining another company. Is this recommended? Will it create difficulties during my profile rounds?

My Background: I am a B.Tech graduate from a tier 3 college. I have always been an average student, scoring between 70-85% during my school days. After working for more than two years in the corporate sector as a product designer, I now wish to pursue an MBA to switch roles and build the network I have always wanted. Currently, I am preparing for the CAT exam online on my own and wondering whether I should join a company or focus completely on CAT preparation, as my basics aren't very strong.
