Serotonin Syndrome

My daughter had to get off zoloft :( She took 11.5mg for 2 weeks and then increased the dose to 25mg. It worked fantastic for her.... but about a week into the 25mg, she started to complain of a very fast heart rate. Her resting was consistently 120-140. The next day she said she was really nauseous and she was having chills and hot flashes. We figured she may be coming down with something but she went to work anyway (she works in the filing dept of a business). She called me a few hours later saying she feels weird and asked me to pick her up. She said she feels like she cant sit down and needs to be moving. She was very restless and seemed like she was crawling out of her skin. Her hands and legs were shaking. Her heart rate was still in the 140 and her pupils looked blown. I called her doctor and they told us to stop the zoloft immediately, and called in some ativan for her to take until she could be seen the next day. Within the couple hours waiting to get the meds, she got worse and would swing from incredibly manic to balling her eyes out. She said it felt like every emotion rushing at her at once.

We went to Walmart and get her Ativan. The pharmacist even noticed how she was acting and I had to tell her shes having an adverse reaction to the zoloft, before they would release it.

The ativan helped significantly by nearly knocking her out. She was seen the next day and the doctor told her the symptoms should resolve as the zoloft leaves her system over the next few days. She got better each day, thankfully.

Shes on no other medications, not even otc. They say serotonin syndrome happens at higher doses, but it seems it can happen at lower ones as well.

Edit: Even though I am being down voted for talking about my daughters reaction, this is staying up. Informed consent is important and I will keep it up in case anyone else has similar symptoms. We were never told these reactions were a possibility.

Found this at a convention. I couldn't leave without it.

I love it!! David Bowie caricature bust by a local artist.

Hand sculpted and then cast / painted. I want to find a jeweled codpiece and mount it on the stand next to him 🤣

Phosphorescent OMC diamond

My new (to me) natural OMC antique ring decided to surprise me. One of the .2ct side stones has STRONG phosphorescence. It is bright blue and lasts about 30 seconds (longer then the video).

Phosphorescence is the ability to absorb and emit light after the light source has been turned off. Basically "glow in the dark".

My unique little ring keeps getting cooler.

Bought this today!

At a pawn shop. 1.5ct light yellow omc center. Looks like roughly 1ct of omc side stones. The center has some feathering and is an I clarity, but honestly, its a charming ring so it doesnt seem to distract. 14kt white gold. Victorian era.

Paid $2900 out the door.

Zoloft working almost immediately...

My daughter was prescribed 25mg zoloft for severe anxiety, possible bpd (genetic, I have anxiety and her biological father is BPD).

She is 18 and his high functioning autism. It got bad recently so I took her the doc and he referred her to psychology and gave her zoloft. Psychology dxd her with severe anxiety (19/21).

She is very sensitive to medication, so she took half (its scored, so 12.5mg). Within about 4 hours she seemed happier, however almost manic. I figured it was a side effect as she gets used to the medication. She went to sleep easy and said she slept better then she has in a LONG time . She has mild stomach upset and a bit sleepy, but has been significantly happier, and says her anxiety is gone. The manic effect seems gone after that 1st dose.

She has always been "messy" and I have had to get on her about doing chores around the house CONSTANTLY.... its been 4 days and I havent had to remind her once. Her room is clean (always has been a battle), she switches the laundry over without being asked and today I came home to find her doing dishes *mind blown*.

She comes up to me and gives me hugs and cuddles with me watching tv. I am hoping this continues....

Everything says 12.5 is too low, and it takes 2 weeks to kick in.... but the change seems too drastic to be placebo. This is a kid I had to remind every 15 min to do a chore, and hid away in her room all day. Now shes watching TV in the living room and all her chores are done without a single reminder.

Cautiously optimistic!!!
