I saw a couple of recent posts in the sub featuring Red Dot Divers. Figured I’d join the trend. Here are a few iterations of Red Dots. The mid-‘80s Divers run on M105 movements (the original version on the rubber strap is a 24563-10586A. The other one came to me with no date wheel - so I modded in a gold date wheel evoking a skin diver vibe). The Electronic has a backset crown and the ‘jump seconds’ complication (M87, I think). The ‘91 Quartz has had a bezel replaced along the way, and the Titanium one was a Korean assembled edition.
I really like Seiko Bell-matic watches. They are built well, serviceable, have a very useful complication, and are proportioned very well. They look great, and Seiko did some fantastic dial and case work with these between 1966 and 1978 when they were made. This particular example is a recent favorite and in fantastic cosmetic condition for its age (made in Jan 1970) - with the reflective black dial and gold fluted alarm bezel sitting very nicely against the gold tome hands, indices and D-D window framing. The early style 7001 SGP case has survived very well. Enjoying it a lot this Monday.
I have friends that sometimes keep a look out for odd vintages at flea-markets, estate-sales, and such. One kind soul sent me the 4th picture, and then the 5th when I asked for a ‘reframing’. This isn’t my usual Timex comfort-zone of ‘60s to early’80s mechanicals. But there was another lot of mechanicals in the mix, and this showed up in the mail. Exploded battery, and general condition did not inspire much confidence. Simple battery change didn’t work. However a little persistence, acid and contact cleaner - with a lot of luck in the mix, and we have a revival! Everything works - including the alarm! 😎
