Concerns About My Kid Starting Kindergarten

Hey everyone,

I am a father of five and my oldest will be starting kindergarten next week. My oldest is a very sweet girl but has been diagnosed with Level 2 Autism. She is very smart mentally but lacks social communication skills and social setting skills. She also has a tendency to say "No" and have mini tantrums when it doesn't go her way. We are proactive about correcting this behavior at home.

I guess I am just concerned how she will interact with other kids in school. Selfishly, I want my girl to have a "normal" school life but I know that is there isn't "normal". The school has an IEP and everything for her. I just don't want her to be "that kid" and become socially isolated or get in trouble at school.

Any advice? Just a father that wants the best for his big girl.

Bidding and Jobs

Hey everyone,

I am a police officer and just recently started my own remodeling business. I will be pretty frank with y'all and say that I clear about $8,000 to $10,000 gross monthly. I am only able to work this job 10-13 days out of the month given my police schedule. I really want to take this business full time, and I know it will take some time to get to that point.

The issue I am running into is winning jobs. I know how to bid a job properly and all. I have done remodeling before police work and did some while as a police officer for friends and family. The issue is dealing with clients who receive a low ball bid on a project that mathematically is near impossible for someone to be done properly.

For example, I had a client who wanted a complete bathroom remodel. The remodel involved completely removing drywall and subfloor down to the joists. The joists were water damaged and needed to be sistered. Cross bracing was needed in the toilet and shower area. Plumbing and electrical needed to be redone and updated to code. Then, rebuild the subfloor and waterproof. Drywall (mud to level 4 finish) walls and ceiling. Install new ceiling lights. New toilet. New one-piece shower. New vanity, sink, and mirror set up. LVP tile flooring with undergarment. Custom cabinet job and 6 closet build. New window installation. Prime and paint and a bunch of other stuff.

Long story short, I gave him an estimate for 27k. Somehow, another guy bidded 17k for the "same" job.

How do you deal with low bidders or am I just bidding too high? I am, of course, licensed and insured to the max.

Thinking About Leaving the Job

Hey everyone,

I am stuck in a tough spot and reaching out for some guidance. As the title stated, I am thinking about leaving the job. I love this job to death, but I have a lot of things going on outside of work. I currently own a business that is extremely profitable and can comfortably provide for my family. I have 6 kids and an amazing wife. I also am attending graduate school in between everything else full time.

I love the job, but I have completely lost my purpose after getting off night shift after spending the past 5 years on it. I used to get into high-speed chases, catch a crap ton of DUIs, and get some traffickers out of the game. Nowadays, I catch those annoying calls for service and run around the city between beats doing random admin tasks. I switched to days to be more present in my kids' lives.

My business will completely cover all my expenses/insurance, etc, and I have a part-time professor job lined up after I complete my master degree. I just really love the job and don't want to hang the duty belt up prematurely.

Any advice? I am looking for the honest truth here, and I can't talk to anyone with my chain because it would feed into the rumor mill.

Edit: I really appreciate the comments and support. It means a lot more than you can imagine. The blue does bleed deep
