Throwing with Anticipation

Thought I’d share one of my bread and butter plays: Sail.

It’s a really simple set of reads with a great checkdown, and it consistently works against Heisman.

Video is Heisman, standard sliders.

Not suggesting the video is perfect or I’m great at the game. Just sharing helpful AI indicators that may help you make decisions more quickly.

Every second counts against the rush.

Attributes and overalls at the end since last time I made a video like this people asked.

Moving in the Pocket

I think the most satisfying part of this game for me is pocket movement. But I play against a lot of people who don’t move in the pocket. They either go straight back or scramble at the first sign of pressure.

The attached is a compilation of clips highlighting how to move against pressure (Heisman standard sliders). Might do more of these videos as I go through this new Georgia State Dynasty.

Some tips:

  1. Never drop straight back. Feels like that’s an instinct for a lot of people. But it just creates easier lanes for the rusher to come at you full speed. Dropping straight back takes you away from your help (your line and RB).

  2. Drift don’t scramble. IMO, it’s pretty fun to stay in the pocket and keep your footwork. Almost like the old Madden mini games with the green nerf balls shooting at you. Try to always keep your footwork. Drift left, drift right, or step up.

  3. Help blockers attach to blocks. You don’t control your blockers. But your movement does affect how they move. It also affects pursuit angles for rushers. You can get really good at matching rushing lanes with where your blockers are going to be.

  4. Know shed animations. Once you see a rusher shed a block, your clock should start. You’ve got about 1.0-1.5 seconds to throw. Throw to your hot/check down or know you’ll be sacked.

  5. Remember your indicators. RB on delayed routes will help you block. But only if they don’t have a receiver icon. Once they do, they’re gone. There is no bringing them back.

  6. Know your progressions. Moving in the pocket requires you to make quick decisions. Know before you snap where you’re going with the ball first, second, etc.. and who your checkdown/hot is. I always know where I’m going in an ideal world. The game helps you by highlighting that route in red (if you choose). And then I pick a defender (safety or LB) and tell myself if the safety or LB stays deep or goes man or blitzes or covers flat etc… I will throw/move to my second read etc…

Hope this helps someone.
