Research and banana's
Astara sits on the ground in a small room that’s usually used for storage. It’s mostly empty though, for some reason. Lots of papers and books lay on the ground of the room.
A lantern flickers beside Astara as she reads a scroll about enchanting statues. She’s searching for anything that could shine more light on the mystery of the secret corridors.
The scroll describes the statues having no emotion. Easily to command. Astara lowers the scroll and sighs slightly frustrated. That wasn’t what she saw.
The statues in the corridors looked so full of emotion. She could still hear the sound of the statues closing in on her and she shivers.
Astara lays the scroll on the side.
“Atleast I can cross that possibility off.”
She carefully picks up her journal and with her pencil she crosses out the words ‘enchanted?’.
The sounds of the hideout get slowly quieter. Is it night already? Astara lost track of time a while ago.
Astara sighs again and reaches with her hand in the box behind her. The box is filled with bananas so she takes one. Nobody will miss one banana.
The slightly sweet taste of the banana is very welcoming after a long day of researching and…not really finding out a lot more about the corridors.
Astara flips through some worn pages of an old book. Most of the pages are filled with old sketches she cant really make out. The book had been hidden in the back of her mom's old closet.
That didnt really make it the most special book ever though since there was a lot of old stuff in Calindra's room. Astara reaches for another book and flips mindlessly through it. A few papers fall out but it doesnt seem too important.
On the last page, Astara stops for a moment though. She brings the latern closer. It looks like a journal page. And the handwriting is identical to her mom's handwriting.
The page describes Calindra's process to get ready to go into the corridors. Her mother clearly did think about stuff that could happen. She took supplies with her that she might need, enough food and water. And still it wasnt enough to save her.
With a shudder Astara realizes there might be even more things like the statues down there. And how lucky Astara was to survive them.
Astara slowly lets the book fall in her lap.
"...What even is that place..? And what does it hide?"
