Beginner help with open water (river) swim technique

Hello and thank you!

I'm doing my first triathlon, which will be a sprint. I feel really comfortable with the bike and run, but freestyle swim is totally new to me. Always been a strong swimmer in general, but trying to learn proper technique.

My main issue seems to be getting winded, and my technique starts to break down after 100-150 meters, without a break.

I've tried alternate breathing every 3 strokes, but unilateral every 2 seems to work best for me.

I welcome any feedback! Doing a triathlon is a life goal of mine. So I'm really excited.

About me: age 32, 6 ft, 195lbs, 15% body fat. I did CrossFit and bodybuilding for years, so I'm pretty dense. Therefore sinking is a major issue lol.

Doing the Louisville Triathlon. Practicing at the Georgetown Pavilion.

The MSC Tune for 800NK is Worth Every Penny!!

I have a 2024 800NK. Experienced many of the same issues other have had with jerky throttle at low speeds. Specifically, if I tried to hold 30, 40, or 50 MPH (you know, MOST riding), it would buck and jerk no matter what gear. Honestly ruined the bike for me. It was only enjoyable when being rode hard. But even that was ruined because the throttle response wasn't linear. It would surge toward the top end, and occasionally jerky mid-corner. Not confidence inspiring AT ALL.

But overall, I love the bike. It has just the right amount of power, great brakes, awesome looks and tech, cruise control, etc. A lot of potential. So I decided to send the ECU off to Team MSC.

Taking the plastics off and getting under the tank to remove the ECU was a lot of work. I highly recommend taping the bolts and clips near their location using masking tape. Made reassembly so much easier.

I'm pretty handy, so teardown took about an hour and so did rebuild. Plus another 30 minutes for the recalibration process.

Now, the bike is PERFECT. Butter smooth throttle response, no jerkiness, and definitely more powerful.

Apparently, the issue is CFMoto did an anti-wheelie mapping on this bike that just wasn't done right. So when I took it out for a test ride after reassembly, I accidentally popped a wheelie in 1st gear lol.

If you have an 800NK, I can't recommend this highly enough. It makes the bike so much better!
