Are headlight kits worth it?

I have used maguaris aluminum polish and it works wonders... however I think it can be better- I mean it is a metal polish lol. It does work nice though I just never added sanding into the mix.

But I never used a clear coat, so of course they faded. I want my headlights to stay clear.

I have a 25 year old car, and all sorts of sandpaper. I have rubbing alcohol micro fiber cloth, masking tape, trash bags, and lots of elbow grease time. I also have a turtle beach wax, and I am planning on buying gloss clear uv resistant anti yellow clear coat.

I want to spend maybe $30 tops for about a year of protection on an older car that isn't worth much but I will be driving.

Should I use this process or just get a cerakote headlight restoration kit for $17? They use some sort of chemicals so I am wondering if I will be missing out if I don't use them.

Or should I just use soapy water, alc, wet sanding, clear coat, turtle wax? Always look to get things right on a budget!

Thanks everyone! Does not need to be perfect, but I want to get it as good as possible around that budget. I still have a lot of work to do cosmetically on the car and every dollar I save I will put into other supplies for other areas.
