My name is [name]and I am a [year group] majoring in [major]. I am reaching out to ask if you have any openings for undergraduate students interested in volunteering in your research lab this fall semester.
I recently read about your research on the effects of Alizarin Red S (AZ) exposure on sea urchin development. I found the connection between oxidative stress and developmental abnormalities especially interesting, as it relates closely to my interests in [major] and understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes.
I am hoping to gainresearch experience as I would like to pursue research in the future, and I would be very grateful for the opportunity to learn and contribute to your work. If you are not currently accepting undergraduate volunteers, I would also greatly appreciate it if you could let me know of anyone in your department conducting research in a similar area who may be looking for students.
