Timeline of World War II combatant states and leaders

Timeline of World War II combatant states and leaders

The rules I used while making the chart:

A state qualifies only if it was sovereign or nominally sovereign and its own forces actually engaged enemy forces.

Puppet/client states can qualify; collaborationist occupation administrations do not.

Organized anti-partisan warfare counts as combat.
The forces doing the fighting must belong to or be controlled by the state itself.

Actual combat is the qualification test, but the bar starts at the state’s formal entry into the relevant war.

Declarations of war against states the country never actually fought do not affect its timeline.

The bar ends at the formal end of the war against the last enemy that state actually fought, unless the state surrenders, collapses, switches sides, or ceases to exist earlier.

Timeline of Communist (Marxist-Leninist and scientific socialist) states and de facto leaders

Of course there are some edge cases, but the rule I used was that the state/ruling sole legal party officially enshrined Marxism-Leninism or Scientific Socialism, commonly referred to as “Communism” as its ideology. An asterisk indicates a leader already ruled or continued to rule before or after the official Communist period. I know I will get comments about North Korea dropping off the chart in 1992. In 1992, the new North Korean constitution removed all references to Marxism-Leninism, only containing references to Juche. I suppose it could be argued that Juche is a form of Marxism-Leninism, though the Juche principle of Suryong is explicitly idealist in contrast to traditional Marxism-Leninism’s materialism.

Who is the most senior DOCUMENTED descendant of Genghis Khan? Part 2: Hypotethical Jochid lines- The Bashkir shezhere (agnatic) and Golden Horde princesses (cognatic)

I’m currently doing research for part 3: What if Jochi was not actually Genghis Khan’s son?

Corrections on chart 4:
Selim’s descent from Gülbahar Hatun should be marked with ?

Abdülmecid’s son and grandson erroneously share his lifespan

Who is the most senior DOCUMENTED descendant of Genghis Khan?

BY NO MEANS IS THIS A CHART OF GENGHIS KHAN’S MOST SENIOR DESCENDANT, JUST THE MOST SENIOR TRACEABLE/DOCUMENTED ONE. I’m currently researching four hypothetical lines, 3 cognatic and 1 agnatic, that aren’t fully proven but would be more senior that I will post soon (The lines of Fedora Sartakovna, Anna, Fatma, and Abak). If you can find a more senior living descendant, please let me know!

Who would be heir to the Roman Empire today? New heirs to the Roman/Byzantine Empire uncovered: The heirs of Emperor Constantine XI and the Palaiologos Family according to agnatic (semi-Salic) and cognatic (male-preference) primogentiture.

As you may know, Andreas Palaiologos, the last claimant to the Eastern Roman Empire, died most likely childless and bequeathed his claim in his will to Ferdinand and Isabella of Castille and Aragon, snubbing his relatives. It was never even used by the monarchs. Assuming this is illegitimate, these charts show the blood heirs of Constantine XI and the Palaiologos family.

The semi-Salic heir, Nikolaus of Hohenburg, is head of the house of Hohenburg. The house was founded by Maximillian, son of Archduke Franz Ferdinand through his morganatic marriage, which disqualified him from being the Habsburg heir. If you for some reason believe children born to a morganatic marriage to be disqualified as heirs to the Roman Empire, then Karl von Habsburg, head of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, would be the true heir. While Semi-Salic succession is rare historically, it did actually occur when Margaret Paleologa succeeded to become the Marchioness of Montferrat.

The male-preference heir, Chiara Zampini Salazar, is the only daughter of auto historian and journalist Carlo Felice Zampini Salazar (1914-1994). Virtually nothing is publicly known about her, other than that she was living in Chieri, Italy according to 2003 phone book records. It is likely though unknown whether she is living or not.

Overall, I believe Nikolaus to have the better claim due to agnatic primogeniture being the de-facto system of succession of the Palaiologos dynasty. It is quite fitting for the Habsburgs to become heirs to the two main church-recognized Medieval Christian empires. However; the cognatic line is closer by blood to Constantine and is still a fascinating discovery.

What if the Kingdom of France/West Francia used male-preference primogeniture instead of Salic succession? Who would be heir today?

And in case you were wondering about the Capetian line, the heir under male-preference primogeniture to that line is none other than Prince Pedro of Calabria, who you may recognize as the heir to Alfred the Great and Edgar Ætheling.

CORRECTIONS:
A couple regnal names displayed incorrectly
The duplicate “Augustus Wilhelm of Prussia” should be “Wilhelm of Prussia”

William the Bastard: The true heirs to the Duchy of Normandy if William is excluded due to his illegitimacy

This is a chart of who the legitimate heirs were and currently is to the Duchy of Normandy. As William the Bastard/Conqueror, was illegitimate, he theoretically should not have inherited the duchy. Individuals are represented by their theoretical regnal name. This succession is mostly contingent on two things: 1. William of Talou (William II) left no issue, and 2. Reginald II of Burgundy’s (Reginald I) line became extinct. The historical record seems to support this, but it isn’t 100% documented like the rest of the tree.

Finding Muhammad’s most senior descendant by primogeniture - my progress so far

MODS PLEASE DON’T DELETE THE CHART ISNT A WIP IT’S A SUMMARY OF MY RESEARCH. I’ve been trying to trace the prophet Muhammad’s most senior descendant through primogeniture (excluding through Fatima, I haven’t had to decide between agnatic and male-preference primogeniture yet) The line so far goes: Muhammad -> Fatima bint Muhammad -> Hasan ibn Ali -> Zayd ibn Hasan -> Hasan ibn Zayd -> Qasim ibn Hasan -?> Muhammad al-bathani ibn Qasim (I’m decently sure he’s the eldest son based on kunya) I’ve been relying on explicit statements or kunya names which often denote the eldest son to determine seniority. The two main sources I’ve been relying on are Ibn Inaba’s Umdat al-Talib fi Ansab Al Abi and Al-Majdi’s al-Majdi fi Ansab al- Talibiyyin. I don’t speak Arabic so it’s been a slog getting through them and they don’t typically indicate kunya or seniority from the point I’ve reached. If you have any great sources to continue with or advice, please let me know. As far as I know, no one has found Muhammad’s most senior descendant before.

No Norman Conquest: The heir to Edgar Ætheling and Alfred the Great’s heir according to male-preference primogeniture.

This is a chart of who is theoretically the heir of the Kingdom of England (and eventually Scotland) according to male-preference primogeniture without usurpations by the Danes, William the Conqueror, and Robert the Bruce, and others. It takes the stance accepted by most historians that Edgar Ætheling (Edgar II on the chart) did not have a daughter named Margaret. I may turn that hypothetical succession into a tree later. People who would have “ruled” are given what would have been their regnal names as Monarchs of England. For example: Louis XIV of France is shown as Louis II.

CORRECTIONS:

Some marriages and their children are incorrectly aligned.

Edgar II’s regnal dates are wrong.

The Duplicate “House Bourbon-Parma” should say “House Bourbon-Two Sicilies”.

What historical building does “Gold Mines of Mali” represent?

This is mostly just a “literally unplayable” nitpick but mines did not exist in the Sahel in the middle ages. Rather vast amounts of gold were found through placer panning of alluvial deposits. I’m guessing the devs just assumed gold was obtained through mining (I’m leaning towards this due to their in-game description) or didn’t want to create extra flavor and just reused mines.

The jizya tax jurisdiction is practically unusable in its current implementation.

To put your vassals under jizya jurisdiction, they must both be of a different religion than you and have a clan government. The obvious problem: guess which one religion virtually all clan vassals and their lieges follow. I don’t know why Paradox didn’t just make it more like the real-life jizya, in which the subjects themselves were taxed for being non-Muslims. This would make it actually make sense to use: the jizya jurisdiction provides you and your vassal extra income but less levies. The changes could go away if you convert the county and your AI vassals could never try to convert their counties. This also would be a boon for RPing as a Muslim state ruling over a substantial dhimmi population which often happened historically, instead of your entire realm becoming Muslim in 10 years.

Starting as the Ghurids in 1178, I conquered North India and established the Mamluk Dynasty of Delhi and Khalji (Muhammadid) Dynasty of Bengal with the historical founders and timeframe.

Hoping we get some Ghurid/Mamluk features and flavor in the inevitable India update. Especially a Mamluk government type and hirable Mamluk military orders.
