Hey everyone—looking for some real talk and maybe a little reassurance.
I’m on my second Cane Corso, but my first female puppy, and wow… she is making me question everything I thought I knew about being a confident dog owner.
I’m working really hard on structure, training, and especially keeping her in a “training mode” mindset in public (no random greetings, focusing on neutrality, etc.). The problem is honestly me sometimes—I find myself getting frustrated or feeling awkward telling people not to interact with her.
I know how important boundaries are with this breed, but in the moment it can feel like I’m being rude or overdoing it.
So I’d love to hear from other Corso (or large guardian breed) owners:
How do you confidently advocate for your dog in public without feeling like a jerk?
What boundaries were non-negotiable for you when your dog was young?
Did your female mature differently than your male (if you’ve had both)?
When did things start to “click” for you and your dog?
Also open to any “I felt like I was failing but it actually turned out fine” stories, because I think I’m in that phase right now 😅
Appreciate any advice or perspective!
