Hello fellow Texans! Today I took a bit a different approach to the Google sheets file.
I've created individual files per TDU region, and split the plans by term length.
This way you don't have to deal with plans that aren't outside of your region, and you can go straight to the term length that makes the most sense for your life.
This summer has been an anomaly in that prices just keep dropping now is a great time to sign up for a new plan.
These are the term lengths that set you up for success with a spring or fall renewal: 3, 9, 14, or 15 month plans.
Spring and fall typically have the best rates.
Let me know if you've got any questions!
I'm trying to avoid turning this subreddit into r/referralcodes, and the comments are getting difficult to manage.
Please keep all requests for referral codes and referral code sharing to the monthly referral code thread.
I'll keep the latest thread pinned to the top of the sub so it's easy to find.
You will never get a good deal at the grocery store. You will not a get a good deal from someone who knocks on your door.
Ignore these salespeople entirely.
Instead, shop online or call a provider directly.
Your best place to shop is PowerToChoose.org.
Folks, electricity rates are wildly cheap right now. I'm shocked... because it's the middle of the summer. Generally, rates should be at their highest of the year.

In this file, I've taken a full download of all the plans listed on PowerToChoose.org and filtered out all the BS...
What you're left with are simple plans with Energy Charge + Delivery Charges only.

This sub began in May 2025. It's crazy that I've been posting here for 13 months now, and even crazier that we've officially hit 1,000 members! Woohoo!
When I joined Reddit, I was upset that it assigned me this random name that starts with "Rude" but y'all have accepted me despite the negative name, and many of you have been incredibly positive, kind, and grateful in the comments. I really appreciate it.
I'm genuinely proud of this community. Every week I see other Texans helping total strangers break down EFLs, compare rates on Power to Choose, warn each other about marketing gimmicks, etc. It's really cool that everyone is helping each other save money on their home's power bills.
If you're new here, welcome! Start with the pinned post, read the friggin wiki (I spent a lot of time writing that sucker), and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Cheers to the next 1,000 members.
P.S. Here's something funny - I'm not even the original creator of this sub.
It was another user who has since deleted their account.

Good afternoon!
I'm back with the latest file containing the cheapest electricity providers and plans in Texas on PowerToChoose.org.
As usual, here's how I've cleaned up the options:
Also, I took out Energy Texas because it's the same as Rhythm Energy and they just post the exact same set of plans twice.
Here are the cheapest electricity providers in Texas (varies by region and in no particular order):
The plans offered by these providers would all end up just being a few dollars different per month, so you'll also want to factor in things like Google reviews and whether the company is likely to sell you off to another provider (and whether you care if that happens!)
Let me know if you have any questions.
Oncor and CenterPoint delivery charges have changed as of June 1, 2026.
ONCOR
Oncor covers DFW, North Texas, Waco, Temple, North Austin, Midland, and Odessa
If you use 1,000 kWh during a billing period, the Oncor charge would increase from ~$60.41 to ~$65.26.
I believe this is the highest per kWh delivery charge ever from Oncor.
CENTERPOINT
CenterPoint covers the Houston area.
If you use 1,000 kWh during a billing period, the CenterPont charge would increase from ~$54.62 to ~$56.36.
If you've got questions, let me know!
Good morning Texas - I just realized I had not posted one of these in a month! Sorry to anyone that was looking for an update.
Here are the cheapest Texas electricity plans on PowerToChoose.org today - click the link to copy a Google sheet to your Drive: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GkPsLg5f-vcogp3LCZYcofU-jrJcOMrLhjEY5ivmZy8/copy
As always, I've filtered out plans using this logic:
All of the plans in the list should be as basic as can be - just energy charge to your provider and delivery charges to your regional utility.
The most affordable providers vary by region, but here's the general list:
Some other notes... I removed Energy Texas because those plans are duplicates of the Rhythm Energy plans. They are the same company and the plans have identical terms and pricing on PowerToChoose.
You may have seen recent post where I called out some brands for business models that rely on selling customers to other providers. I haven't removed those brands because it's your choice whether you want to deal with that. They still have good rates.
Let me know if there are any questions!
It's been about 2.5 years since Lubbock Power & Light joined the deregulated energy market.
How are y'all feeling about it so far?
Are you paying more or less than you used to for electricity?
I took the liberty of downloading all of the plans available on PowerToChoose.org and filtering out the crap to share with anyone who may be in the market for a new plan.
I removed variable rates, prepaid plans, plans with minimum usage fees or bill credits, and time-of-use plans. I also took out plans that charge you fees for paying with credit card, add fees if you don't use autopay, require a connected thermostat, or have monthly base charges.

The cheapest energy providers in Lubbock right now are:
Happy to answer any questions if you have any.
There are a few electricity providers in the Texas deregulated market that exist with this business model:
Why this matters:
If you're okay with constantly switching providers every year, that's fine. The bigger provider is required to honor your rate until the end of the original contract. You can just switch before you renew with them.
If you'd rather stick with a provider that will treat you right, these are the providers to avoid:
If you've ever been sold to another provider, share your story!
To further protect the members of this community, I've added a new rule to prevent repeated and spammy broker website link comments. This subreddit exists to help Texans in deregulated regions of the state find more affordable electricity plans. It does not exist to enrich the financials of brokers.
Brokers can participate by posting and commenting, but the content shared must be useful and valuable, not sales related.
As a general rule to my fellow Texans, broker websites do not have the most affordable plans. You pay a higher price per kWh because the electricity providers pay brokers per enrollment.
If you have any questions or feedback, I'm open to discussion!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I removed the following plans from the list of offers from PowerToChoose.org:
We're left with plans that only include the Energy Charge and the TDU Delivery Charge.
The cheapest energy providers vary by region, but this week they are:
All of these providers offer straightforward plans and whichever you choose, the bills would only vary by a few dollars depending on the term length.
As always, let me know if there are any questions.
