Good Cake Bakery?

Hi! I'm moving to Lubbock here soon with a roommate and her birthday is happening just a few days after we move. I was hoping to find a bakery to do one of those SpongeBob 24 years old birthday cakes but I don't know any good bakeries that would be able to do that. If you know of any places that could do that for me, please let me know!! Thanks!!

Mexico WC game tonight, any watch spots with a good vibe?

Any suggestions on a good spot to watch the game tonight? Just looking for a fun, welcoming crowd. I’d really rather not deal with racist nonsense tonight.

They call it flock because they think we are sheep. There is nothing American or Oklahoman about being surveilled on.

It's 3:04 A.M. Do You Know Where Your Children Are? -- July 4, 2026

Won't show the video with their faces visible due to their age, but these two children were vaping while walking. The kid with the red shorts can blow a good cloud.

Old Cora Apartments

I used to live at the Cora Apartments on Ave U near Tech (now the Tenements on Ave U). While I lived there it went from a dingy cheap place to a dangerous one. Roaches, bedbugs, no A/C, squatters, people cooking meth, car thefts, and people starting fires. It got even worse at the end. We could hear people sobbing and screaming at all hours, there was a bike chop shop, people would try and get into the apartment, and people kept dumping human feces in the pathway. I called the police almost every night due to extreme violence. It ultimately burned down in 2020 due to someone leaving a two litre bottle of "shake n bake" out until it exploded. My wife and I and one other couple were the only ones "officially" living there, but the place was packed. I am in a much better place now thankfully. I was trying to find more info after seeing an ad for the new place, but it seems like a lot has been scrubbed from the Internet. Does anyone have any info or stories they would like to share?

Walmart racists

To the group of elderly racists today at Walmart on 82nd, that verbally abused my wife who was by herself shopping, for wearing a Mexico Soccer Jersey, hope you all have the day you deserve. People, you need to do better! All for all the folks that came to her defense, bravo, thank you.
FYI, she doesn’t HAVE to go back to her country, she is already here, she was born here you knuckleheads. Too bad I was at work, I would have worn my Argentina Jersey, they would have had a field day. Let’s go World Cup

Hi,

I’m curious where one could see some fireworks this weekend since I figured the fairgrounds will be packed. Any recommendations would be great!

Internet

Hi, so we first used optimum but they had long hold times and slow internet speed, too many issues. We switched to AT and T which was a BIG mistake. Why? Because they first said it would only be $40 a month...that was a lie. They also keep adding extra fees and we are fed up. Anybody know other internet services that won't cost and arm or a leg? No contract and no funny business?

Why are lubbock rentals so bad

I have to move to lubbock from Amarillo for work and the apartment/housing situation has been almost impossible to sort out. Rental townhomes and houses can go for insane monthly prices and have crazy deposits so im too broke for them. But it seems like every single apartment I've contacted with rent below 1300 are income restricted government housing and i make 2x too much. Im from Amarillo where 1300 can get you a decent rental house. Why is lubbocks renting situation so fucked? Is it really all just government housing?

Bolton Oil Change Raised Prices

Used to cost $55 to get full synthetic oil in my truck and now is $77 (both before tax).

They’re now just as expensive as every other oil change chain! No longer feels local. Such a bummer

Flower Shops?

I’m looking to send my friend some flowers but I live out of state and don’t know the area at all. I was wondering what flower shops locals would recommend. Thanks in advance to whoever comments.

Job search for evenings/nights that are chill

I am needing an evening or night job where it’s basically chill and relaxed. I have a full time remote job where I’m on call 24/7 for 10 days at a time. In the evenings/night I generally do not get calls. If anything I will receive a Teams message and I have it resolved within a few minutes.

I am looking for part or full time. I have looked into overnight hotel auditor and security as of now but no responses.

Why the Lubbock County Expo Center deal is a major financial risk for taxpayers.

Besides the endless list of why we should NOT have a data center here, I’m worried we’re looking at a serious municipal debt trap. Here is why I think we might be over-leveraging our future.

The structure of this lease is wild. The county retains the risk, while the LCEC gets to keep naming rights and can use the lease to secure private bank loans. Essentially, we’ve built a financial lightning rod and handed the remote control to commercial banks for the next three-quarters of a century.

This relies heavily on private donor commitments. In the current economic climate, a pledge isn't cash in the bank. If those donors experience a downturn (which we are already seeing in the ag and credit sectors), who is left to cover the gap? It feels like we're betting the county’s reputation on money that hasn't actually landed in the account yet.

The bond repayment is tied almost entirely to hotel and car rental taxes. With travel velocity slowing down and fuel costs remaining high, is it realistic to count on a booming tourism market to service a 77-year debt load? (The lease breaks down to an initial 27-year term plus two 25-year extensions, meaning we could be tied to this for nearly a century). We’re essentially funding fixed, non-negotiable debt with some of the most volatile tax revenue available.

Don't get me wrong, I’d love to see North Lubbock thrive, and a state-of-the-art facility would be an amazing asset for the Hub City. However are we building a jewel, or are we just signing a massive mortgage on an empty monument that we’ll be paying off long after the current tech boom shifts?

What is everyone else’s take? Am I being too cynical, or is this really as exposed as the balance sheet looks?

New doctor recommendations

So I went to a doctor here for years and with him retiring earlier this year I’ve been struggling to find a new dr that will continue me on my meds mostly my ADHD meds. I called multiple offices and found that many won’t prescribe them, but found one that would and on the first visit he told me that in his opinion I should’ve never been on that dose and started weaning me off and after a few months I was struggling with things I haven’t dealt with since starting my meds as a little kid, when I brought that up on my last visit he got irritated and all but called me an addict and lowered my dosage again. Just looking for a doctor that will actually listen and either continue me on my meds or recommend an alternative instead of assuming I’m an addict and just trying to force me off them.

Input Form

Make sure your voice is heard by participating in the Lubbock’s Data Center Citizen Input Form. The input itself is a ranking system of I presume the top questions usually asked about data centers. You can also add your own concerns however it’s limited to only 200 words. The stage is set for July 7th (Tuesday) at 5:30pm in the Lubbock memorial civic center. Anyone can go but only a 1000 will actually get in.
