Has anyone here actually had pet insurance come through for them during an emergency vet visit?

The other day I was at the vet and observed someone quietly inquire about payment plans after being slammed with an emergency bill… it made me think. Has anyone here actually used pet insurance when things go south, or is it more of a nice in theory thing until you need it? I’ve been doing more research lately since I really don’t want to get blindsided like that.

Cat Exercise Wheels: Does your cat have an exercise routine?

The majority of people don't give cats exercise routines much thought. At two in the morning, we typically imagine them stretching occasionally, napping in a sunny spot, and then haphazardly running down the hallway. However, when you give it some serious thought, indoor cats don't always receive the stimulation and movement they are accustomed to. They can become bored, restless, or even a little stressed if they don't get enough exercise because they are still hunters at heart.

Cat exercise wheels start to make a lot more sense at this point. Some cats actually get used to them surprisingly quickly, despite the fact that they initially appear a little absurd basically, a giant hamster wheel for a cat. Even though they live in a smaller space, it allows them to stay active, stretch their legs, and burn off energy. Having a place to run can make a big difference for energetic cats or those who get the late-night zoomies.

This raises the question of whether your cat engages in any kind of regular exercise. Perhaps it's running around the house like a little crazy, climbing furniture, or chasing toys. Alternatively, they might benefit from an exercise wheel or something a little more structured. In any case, keeping them active is important for their mental and physical well-being in addition to being enjoyable.

Having a cat means you already know that the litter box situation can be the deciding factor in how your place feels. I've tried a few setups over the years (small apartment, shared space, now a little more room) and honestly there is no one 'perfect' box, it really depends on your cat and your layout. The enclosed ones did help with smell and keeping things looking a little less… out in the open, for smaller spaces. But one of my cats hated the door and would just avoid it, so I had to go back to open style. High-sided boxes have been a godsend though especially if your cat is a litter kicker like mine.

If you have more than one cat, having more than one box in different spots makes a bigger difference than I expected. They definitely have favorites. And it cuts down on accidents. I also tried one of those self-cleaning ones out of curiosity, it’s nice not scooping every day but it’s not totally “set it and forget it” like people make it sound.

It’s kind of trial and error at the end of the day, but once you find the setup that works, it makes everything way easier (and your place smells way better).
