Which pet insurance companies are not owned by VC?

Just got my policy renewal info for my cat who recently turned 9. I've been with Embrace for three years now. Started at $315 for the year, then up to $550 for year 2, last year they wanted $760, but I increased the deductible and remained $550. Now it is going up to $900. This seems insane, it's over a 60% increase. I know Embrace is now owned by VC. I'm considering switching to a company that's not owned by VC. Does anyone know if Pets Best or Lemonade are VC-owned?

Will figo cancel my policy if I wait to do knee surgery?

It looks like my dog tore her ccl but waiting for X-rays. If we decide to wait to do surgery in October and my policy renews in September will figo cancel policy/not let me renew it? Prefer to let her enjoy her summer and not torture her yet plus we have some trips planned - but not if it means we won’t have insurance.

Switching my 10 year old dogs plan

Looking for advice. My 10 year old pug is currently on Healthy Paws and we're about to get hit with a big increase. We've been lucky, he's been very healthy. He's had an eye infection once and has a luxating patella, like a lot of pugs. He does occasionally get acupuncture on his knee. If I switch his insurance, do you think his acupuncture will no longer be covered?

Healthy paws gave the option of increasing deductible to 1k and reimbursement at 60% to keep the price as is and not increase.

What would you do?

Odie's unethical removal of their OWN Google Reviews is FIXED. Let the reviews roll in!!

Some Good Samaritan restored Odie Pet Insurance's Google Reviews Page that Odie worked hard to take down to hide from consumers that might be shopping for pet insurance. As some of you might recall, they AVERAGED 1-star out of 5 before they shamelessly took their own business page down instead of facing their issues head-on. That's right, they'd rather HIDE than FIX their issues. It's everything that's wrong with insurance these days.

Now we're starting over though. They have a completely clean slate.

Pets best insurance?

I’ll try to make this as sweet and short as possible. After losing my cane corso to cancer, we adopted a pitbull mix from the ASPCA. Well let me tell you, we have our hands full. Recently she ate a wire, and I had to rush her to the vet, to find she still had some in her system (thankfully she passed it). Unfortunately, I didn’t have my crate available this weekend, and she ate my couch. I know I need pet insurance on her because she’s a foreign object surgery in the making (lol but also not funny). Anyway, I looked up the plan, and see they don’t have an annual limit as opposed to Lemonade pet insurance. They’re also only 28$ a month. Does anyone know what the trick is to them? Or is it that affordable. I checked lemonade, and they have An annual limit of and are about 46$ a month.

Trupanion VS Chewy What Am I Missing

I‘m looking for insurance for my 9-year-old mixed breed medium sized 55lb male puppy dog. I have been looking for months. I go down the rabbit hole hard every few weeks and then get overwhelmed and just give up. Today I got quotes from Lemonade, MetLife, and Trupanion. I’m in WA state so Physicians Mutual is NOT available for me.

I believe I have narrowed it down to Trupanion, but right before I decided to check out I stumbled upon the Chewy Trupanion plan that has the once-a-year deductible instead of a per condition deductible.

What am I missing in these 2 plans? Why is the one from Chewy so much more? I have added every option for both. Trupanion is $155 a month and the Chewy is $257.

Is Foreign Object Covered During Waiting Period?

We got insurance for our pup about a week ago! Yesterday he swallows toilet paper and other things from the trash and has been vomiting for about 48 hours. While our accident coverage is in effect, we’re still in the waiting period for “illness.” They’re doing an xray and consultation and then other testing for pancreatitis and other issues. My question is, since this occurred after an “accident,” will this hospital visit be covered? I assume anything they find will be a pre existing condition, or how does that work? Or is this all an “illness,” and we’re screwed? Would love any insight.

EDIT: we have lemonade. The accident occurred about a week after accident coverage began.

Two near identical pets drastically different costs (Lemonade)

Hi! Me and my girlfriend both have cats but they are on different insurance policies. The cats are very similar and the plans we have for them are also very similar, except for a few things which I will mention. Their insurance though this year is going up by around $13, whereas mine has mostly stayed the same (only went up about $1). They were originally the same price and both were shelter cats. Location is Raleigh, NC.

Girlfriend’s cat: Male 4 year old tabby, $250/yr deductible with 70% back on covered bills and up to 10,000 a year. Did a routine check up last year and that is it. $40 a month.

My cat: Female 5 year old tuxedo, $250/yr deductible with 80% back on covered bills and up to 20,000 a year. I did a routine check last year as well as some X-rays. $27 a month.

Note that both plans cover: accident or illness resulting in eligible condition and preventative care

When talking with the company they just keep saying it’s inflation and not to compare cats as they’re both different (yet I don’t really see how).

Are they getting screwed here or is it that I am being undercharged? Is this expected for pet insurance companies to be around this price, or would changing companies help at all? Any advice would be appreciated.

Lemonade Raised Premium 150%

Lemonade increase my premium from $750 to $2000 for my cat who has no health issues. He has a single claim on his file (echocardiogram) that can back perfectly healthy.

Just a warning to everyone what kind of company Lemonade is

Ingestion a pre-existing condition?

This little stinker is costing us $1200 out of pocket today because I suffered analysis paralysis in getting pet insurance. She grabbed a bag of baking soda-based toilet cleaner tablets out of the bathroom and ripped it open. I don’t even know if she ingested any, but decided I couldn’t wait any longer than 15 minutes for the ASPCA poison control line so took her to the ER. (ASPCA ultimately took 45 minutes to pick up.)

ANYWAY — she’s a 12 week old Lab from a breeder with parents with OFA and CHIC clearances. We are in MD close to DC so VHCOL. I’m looking at Trupanion, Lemonade, Prudent Pet, and Physicians Mutual but one thing I’m now questioning is whether accidental ingestion will count as a pre-existing condition for any of these companies, even if next time she might go for a rock or a sock (she is super mouthy).

Any advice on ingestion being ruled a preexisting condition and input on any of these companies? Thanks.

Furkin vs. Trupanion: Premium Increases?

I’m trying to decide on a company to insure my two cats in Canada. They're both a year old and have no pre-existing conditions.

I looked into Trupanion, but I’ve seen quite a few people mention that their premiums increase over time. I was wondering if anyone here has Furkin and could share their experience. Do their premiums go up as well? If so, how significant have the increases been?

I’d also really appreciate any recommendations for other pet insurance companies in Canada. Thanks!

Trupanion denied claim

My dog as a puppy ate a wood chip - noted by the vet at the time.

Now 6 years later he ate a peach pit that required surgery. Trupanion denied the claim due to pre existing condition…

A) should i bother appealing?

B) should i cancel trupanion and just set money aside in case of emergency considering im screwed if this happens again down the road

Is Trupanion worth it?

I have three cats and I am thinking about getting pet insurance for two or all three of them. So far, my main contender is Trupanion (reliability) or Lemonade (affordability). Trupanion is more expensive and won't cover my oldest-he is around 17 years old with stage 3 kidney disease. I don't expect to be able to find coverage for him, although I am open to recommendations if I get a separate policy for him!

For Trupanion, what I have it selected to is the $1000 deductible with the unlimited payout and 90% reimbursement including the add-on of Pet Owner Assistance. This comes to around $190/month for my other two kitties. Does this seem reasonable? I originally wanted a smaller deductible, but I cannot afford $300/month for their insurance. My main reason for pet insurance is for an accident/illness that comes on later in life-they are 5 and 13 years old. I can afford exams, blood drawings, dental stuff, but I want the extra coverage in case something happens. My vet allows payments, but I'm wondering if insurance is a good add-on.

I also know of Care Credit cards for pets, I'm not sure if anyone has any advice on that as well.

Trupanion is useless

I have a Shorkie (Shitzu/Yorkie) who is 1.5 years old
I signed up with @trupanion 4 months ago beginning In March. In May I filed a claim because I went to the vet for vaccines and mentioned that my pup was having itching. They gave her an allergy shot and some prescription food in case it was food related. Filed the claim not expecting the vaccine to be covered but was expecting coverage for the allergy shot. Nope-denied for preexisting because she had itching in the past. It’s seasonal allergies or flea.

Next claim I filed was because she was having bloody diarrhea. That claim was denied —-WHY???Again preexisting because she had constipation in the past so all Gastrointestinal issues would denied!!!!

Puppies get into stuff all the time and is common that these symptoms could happen for various different reasons. Itching also could be allergic fleas etc. so that would never be covered.

I’ve paid over $500 vet bills plus monthly costs for the insurance.

So basically unless it’s something major there is no coverage.

Adult Cats With No Vet Records

Hi all,

I’m taking over care of my elderly mother’s cats. She has six and they are all over the age of 5 from the looks of it.
They have no vet records, though they have been fixed. She says she has no idea where she got them fixed at since it’s so many years.

I’m thinking about getting pet insurance for them since I have no idea what I’m walking into. They all look mostly healthy but I’m sure there’s going to be at least one case that needs dental help.

But I’m wary about getting pet insurance and getting denied for pre existing condition since this is certainly an adult cat who has had dental problems for some time. I see that it relies on vet records to determine pre existing, so I should be in the clear.

It just seems a bit too good to be true.

Pet insurance

Just had my renewal quote through for my 6 year old GSD - it has gone up from £1418 to £1726

It’s a complete joke no claims at all - every year it has gone up at least 10% and all they say is risk factors. I feel ripped off when I got her it was £400 a year which is reasonable. The reason for the charge treatments have got more sophisticated, vets bills have gone up etc…

No wonder you see dog rescues full - people can’t afford a dog due to this.

The companies know that we will pay anything to make sure that we are covered.

Surely something needs to happen where they can’t keep on getting away with these exorbitant increases year on year. Pretty soon pet ownership will be for a select few due to the cost

Is it normal for insurance to go up almost 30% annually? Looking for historical data from cat owners.

We have three Maine Coons and the insurance with Trupanion for them as kittens was pretty reasonable at about $15-$17 per month each. In the first year the insurance went up 3% which also felt very reasonable and worked out to an extra $13 per year. However in the second year our rates went up 51%, then 23% and 29%, averaging out to about 27% annually. I'm wondering if this levels out at some point or is it normal for increases to be this high annually? I extrapolated costs out assuming they all make it to 20 and we'd be looking at several hundred and then over $1000/per cat monthly if this continues. We're wondering if anyone has historical data over a longer period and if this eventually goes back down to a reasonable 3-5% per year? We know our breed will be a bit more of course but just didn't expect this steep of an annual increase. I'm just wondering if it makes more sense for us to just start saving that amount instead as we're now hitting the point of paying $150/month. Thanks for any feedback/advice!

Insurance advice

I’m a new pet parent to a 11 week old kitten and he’s a short haired tabby. Totally healthy currently. I’m considering pet insurance but am lost with all the options. What I want in an insurance is a lower monthly payment, coverage for emergency/unexpected visits, and possible medications. A lower deductible would of course be nice but I understand decent coverage may come with a higher deductible.

Any advice or suggestions?? Thank you!!!
