Anyone know what they’re tearing up under Superior St for the Urban Trail?

Drove past the Urban Trail construction on Superior between Clinton and Lafayette and there’s a pile of old creosote soaked timbers with what looks like steel rail next to it. Looks like wooden ties + girder rail i.e. a streetcar line that got paved over rather than removed.

My best guess is the old Centlivre line that ran from Superior & Calhoun out to the brewery. Last Fort Wayne streetcar ran June 27, 1947.

Anyone with better info, old photos of this stretch, or insight into what the contractor is doing with the materials? Seems like something ARCH or the History Center would want to know about.

Are there any plans for a road diet on Washington/Jefferson/Maumee and Clinton/Lafayette both downtown and in the adjacent neighborhoods?

All four are overbuilt arterials that function as commuter routes with way more lanes than current traffic justifies, and they cut through some of the densest residential and civic areas in the city.

Curious if this has come up in the master plan, NIRCC, or any city/INDOT discussions, or if there’s anything actually funded vs. just talked about.

Not trying to start a debate, just genuinely curious where this stands.

The Landing worked because Columbia is narrow, walkable, and has a contiguous historic streetwall. Model Group basically restored a single block and bracketed it with the Gateway Markers.

Looking around downtown, Broadway between Jefferson and Taylor seems like the cleanest next play. It’s anchored by the core on the north end and Electric Works on the south, has intact 2-3 story masonry storefronts, surface lot inventory ready for infill, and West Central right next door.

Other places to consider would be Calhoun and Wells. Where else?
