Electrical Engineer from Pakistan planning Subclass 190 migration – Need advice on Engineers Australia assessment and next steps
Hi everyone,
I've been researching the Australian skilled migration pathway and am considering applying for the Subclass 190 visa as an Electrical Engineer. Before I start the process, I'd love to hear from people who have been through it, especially fellow Pakistanis and engineers.
My profile:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from NED University, Pakistan (Washington Accord accredited)
- Around 2.5 years of professional experience in:
- Commercial & Industrial Solar PV projects
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Hybrid solar and microgrid solutions
- Project engineering and technical pre-sales
- Published research paper on solar irradiance forecasting using deep learning.
- Estimated points currently sit around 70-80 depending on my English score. My IELTS has expired, so I'm preparing for PTE Academic and aiming for Superior English.
A few general questions:
- Have any Pakistani Electrical Engineers here recently received invitations or grants for Subclass 190? If so, what were your points?
- Based on my profile, do I stand a reasonable chance?
- Would you recommend:
- Applying independently,
- Using a Pakistani migration consultant, or
- Going through an Australian MARA-registered agent?
- Since my degree falls under the Washington Accord, do I still need any separate educational document assessment?
- From a migration strategy perspective, is it better to obtain:
- Only the skills/employment assessment, or
- Both educational and employment assessments?
Specific questions regarding Engineers Australia:
- For skills assessment purposes, should I nominate ANZSCO 233311 (Electrical Engineer) or the newer OSCA 243331 code?
- I currently have approximately 2.5 years of relevant experience. I've come across information mentioning a 5-year experience requirement for employment assessments. Does Engineers Australia require five years of experience to issue a positive Employment Skills Assessment?
- My employer's HR department only issues standard experience letters and has declined to include detailed job duties. The letters therefore don't closely align with the responsibilities listed under ANZSCO 233311 or OSCA 243331.
For anyone who faced a similar issue, what supporting documents did you provide instead? For example:
- Supervisor or manager declarations
- Emails, contracts, or other supporting evidence
- Since I don't yet have five years of experience, what would be the best way to start the migration process now? Should I obtain the skills assessment first and continue building experience while waiting for invitations, or is there a better strategy?
Any guidance or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
