When I signed my lease last year I had to pay first and last month’s rent as well as a security deposit. My last month on the lease is Oct, which I have already paid, however my landlord accidentally took the money ($2900) out of my account anyways and says that it will be returned to me with my security deposit, which is up to 30 days after Oct 31st. I need the money now to put towards my new apartment, but they say there is nothing they can do to get me the money back sooner. They also received signed written notice from me back in September that I won’t be renewing the lease.

I’m not sure how to get the money back…do I threaten to take them to small claims court?
