I know that digging requires a lot of energy, is difficult, and is not always worth it.

We watch Alone and have seen a participant build semi-underground shelters.

My partner and I are discussing the pros and cons of having a shelter underground or above ground due to temperatures in the arctic circle.

Would a shelter semi underground be harder to heat up the earth due to the permafrost and frozen ground?
Or would it be warmer because of constant temps and seclusion from the air?
