Hassled by Uber driver

I live in the South Bay and took an uber to the Hilton LAX to meet a colleague before his flight.

We had a couple beers and then I requested my ride back home.

My driver who picked me up, immediately questioned me and asked why I was cheating the system? I said no, I was at a meeting with a colleague at the hotel. He then went on to ramble about how fares are $8-$10 more if they pick you up from the uber waiting area versus at a nearby hotel.

He said that many people take the free shuttles to avoid paying surge pricing and that this was a very common technique. Again, I was not on any flight as I had no bags or anything like that.

Do people really take the free shuttles to hotels and then request rides? I don’t know why an uber driver would care, it’s not like they get the full $8 more. We all know that Uber extorts people for rides from LAX anyways. So what if people figure out a loophole? How about building that fucking people mover and getting light rail to run to Torrance?
