I did it! I'm free! It's been 7 hours since I used claudecode

My Pro subscription expired today, they killed my access at 1pm local time.

I'm now using Qwen3.8-27b w/ 5090m 24gb vram and pi to do everything i was doing in claudecode.

The only downside is claudecode let me code without using my gpu, meaning I have to plan things now.

Last night I had ChatGPT write up a prompt for a fancy aurora predictor for Canadians. I fed it to local pi and claude sonnet 5. They took about the same time, pi's app looked better, but claude's had better science. I asked them each to compare the two apps and they both agreed Claude had the better app. I then had pi upgrade it's version with the better science.

I'll post again if I have to cave in and re-subscribe to work on one of my production apps, but so far so good!

Can hermes call customer service for me yet?

I just had to go through a menu (1, 1, 2, 1, 1) and then wait for 20 minutes to get some customer service.

How far are we from being able to have hermes do this? I did a quick look around and there's some talk of a voice personal assistant... just need some VOIP and...

GET MY REFUND, MAKE NO MISTAKES!

My experience with hermes

Just thought I'd share my experience.

I used claudecode to setup hermes. I've got a laptop with 32gb ram and 5090m 24gb vram.

I had a lot of issues with looping and it just not working right. I think most of my problems were settings issues with llama.cpp.

I was hoping to use hermes to mine my personal data. I downloaded my facebook data and wanted to try mining that. I had issues with hermes creating too many skills, maybe from when my llm settings were off, i don't really know for sure. It was more difficult than I expected it to be.

I finally got my facebook converted to markdown and then indexed and then it finally kinda worked.

For my next trick, I wanted another hermes agent that I could try giving some marketing tasks to. I didn't want any agent that had access to my personal data on the internet, so I rolled up a second hermes for that purpose.

I had Fable come up with a marketing agenda for hermes to follow. I ended up troubleshooting the flow and claude came up with a way to test my llm against the marketing flow.

The testing found the unsloth qwen3.6-35b was the winner over any of the fancy versions I had (ornith, uncensored, etc). Since Meta's glimmer came out, I tested it, it was good. I didn't test the new nemotron.

I tried creating a skill to create an h3 prompt based on a description. I figured I should be able to tell hermes "Make a skill that does this, here's the data you need" but it choked. I ended up having to use claude to create the skill. and then I thought, that is lame, I shouldn't have to use claude to create a skill for hermes, so I asked claude what to do, and it made a hermes meta-skill skill, which seemed like that should have been built in to me. I didn't test it.

Overall for me, hermes is like a solution looking for a problem for me. I don't know what I'm going to use it for yet. I keep looking at the posts asking what people do with it, but I don't see anything that floats my boat, that makes me want to say "Yes! I will spend 2 days trying to get a computer to figure this out!"

I see a lot of people say the best thing about hermes is it's self learning, but i haven't experienced that yet. I had a lot of problems running out of context, and it was really frustrating that hermes would be like "I just got started and now I'm running out of memory. I'm going to write up a handoff document. First clear, then explain I need to resume what I was working on. " there should be a "clear memory and resume previous task automatically" option.

At this point I think hermes needs some kind of "break it down" feature. I think my llm is smart enough that it can break things down to small pieces and do the small pieces well, I just hate having to remember to break everything down manually.

Evaluating models for general use

I'm working on some articles, and I wanted a good way to edit them with AI (not write, just edit). Different models give different results, I wanted a way to automate things.

You configure the app from a web page, system prompt with presets, prompt, select what models you want to use, if you want to tweak the defaults, etc.

Round 1: The script then loads the first AI, runs the prompts, saves the results, unloads the AI. It then repeats down the list of all your models.

Round 2: Once it finishes, the script makes the results blind and submits all the results to each AI a second time, asking it to judge the results.

Round 3: The model that scores the highest is asked to analyze Round 2, summarizing the findings, etc.

I added Ornith to my local models and it ended up taking 1st place. Here's the results of my last edit:

Ornith-1.0-35B-Heretic-MTP-APEX-I-Compact thinking 0.75

Qwen3.6-27B-uncensored-heretic-v2-Native-MTP-Preserved-NVFP4-Q8_0 thinking 0.72

Trying to code with qwen3.6-27b

Thought I'd share my journey trying to replace claudecode.

My laptop has a 5090m 24gb vram, 32gb ram.

Running qwen3.6-27b q8 nvfp4 mtp I'm getting around 75 t/s.

I've tried aider a few times, didn't like it.

I tried qwencode and was really excited to see how close it was to claudecode in looks. Turns out performance was not so great. I added the jinja template, had AI look at logs and tweak things, including the template. In the end, qwencode still got stuck in a lot of loops. After tweaking settings, I tried tweaking things to keep context small. You get to about 40k tokens with 27b and it looses it's mind and loops.

I've got open webui installed, I tried that for grins, and it seems to be a lot better with the same back end (27b). I added the subagent addons to see if I can get it to work better.

Next steps will be to test claudecode with some kind of proxy to see if it will work with my local 27b?

Secure Boot keeps re-enabling Legion 7i Gen 10

Second time it's happened in less than a week. Turn the laptop on in the morning, it doesn't want to boot at all. Eventually it will boot Windows. I have to go in to UEFI and Disable Secure Boot and change the disk boot order to get my Linux drive to boot first.

Since this was the second time this morning, I booted Windows and ran all the updates and a BIOS update.

I got the Intel Ultra 9 275HX, 32gb ram, 2 x 1tb nvme, 5090 24gb. I was a little irritated that the ad on bhphoto said 2TB NVME and in reality it was 2 x 1tb. and it came with a 6 month warranty because I guess it had been in their warehouse for 6 months?

Hopefully the secure boot thing goes away. Warranty repairs suck.

Cellular face scanning update???

I use Telcel and I know we're coming up on a deadline to register our phone numbers or get cut off.

I started to register my ID, I don't mind uploading my passport, and honestly I don't mind even uploading a photo to prove it's me, but I am not letting them scan my face for free. The whole look up, left, right, down, so they can train AI to recognize my face, fuck that!

I read most Mexicans don't trust the man with their info, they said they've tried this before and they end up selling/leaking your data and problems follow.

Just wondering if anybody's heard anything, I'm guessing we won't know until they shut off 75% of the cell phones in Mexico that didn't bend over and allow the face scanning?

My Ninja Swirl Creami Review

Bought at Costco in Canada for $200CAD. It's going back.

Too loud.

Too big. Takes up too much space. It's so tall you can't open the kitchen cupboards if it's on the counter, it can't fit under the cabinetry.

Too much work for too little ice cream. It came with 2 containers to freeze. Each container makes enough for 4 small servings. My girlfriend and I can eat a container in one sitting and we're not overweight, we like ice cream that doesn't have poison in it.

I make a mint chocolate chip ice cream and use avocado and real mint leaves to make it green, and low sugar.

I use a 2 qt frozen bowl type cuisinart in Mexico. It's great. I'd really like a compressor unit here in Canada, but might have to settle for another frozen bowl due to how expensive they are.
