MTB Shoes - Comfortable

So I've been using FiveTen Kestrel Boa, Specialized Recon 2.0 most recently and I just keep getting hotspots on my feet.....I've tried 4 kinds on insoles and its just not working out. I've also tried repositioning cleats multiple times. I don't do downhill at all and mostly XC style trails - and I like pedaling and steady climbs. I figured XC style shoes would be the best fit, but now that I'm a better rider and ride "lighter" and throw the bike around much better, I find that my left foot (which is my "rear-pedal" foot) gets achy all the time. Sometimes......just sometimes it does not hurt...IF I get the Boa lacing at the riiiiight tightness. It's so annoying and I'm really open to any suggestions on shoes that might be more comfortable but still have a good enough platform for pedaling. I'm currently looking at the LEATT ProClip 6.0 Endurance - Thoughts?

Summer will kick into full gear soon and I'm not a morning-rider. #nightrides!!!! These are from yesterday coming down 3-Mile Smile and White Rhino. Being alone in the desert, on a bike, is really something else.

Had it on Medium distance and high. Will change vantage point next time. Last part also went into slow-mo. Have no idea why it did that..?

Had 2.4 Mezcals on and juuuuust couldn't get the "bounciness" outta them. They were very "fat." For my weight (165 lbs) and setup the Fast Traks (2.35) are much better. Also dropped weight from 26.5 lbs to 25.7 lbs.

Well who doesn't like eye candy right? Just a quick post after I washed her. Reinstalled the 140mm Fox 34 Fork w/ new air spring changed to 130mm. Kept the rear shock chip in the "low" position and it rides the best in this format (EVO) - for me at least. Slapped on XTR M9200 pedals (with new multi-entry MT cleats) and never using any other pedal again. Finally got everything tuned to perfection today. I was getting a little annoyed with the Mezcal 2.4s at first but finally found the right psi & suspension settings.

I just changed the air spring on my fork from 140mm to 130mm. My previous pressure at 140mm was 84 psi and it was perfect. Has anyone done this (change air spring) and what recommendations would you have for psi? Logically increase right? or keep everything the same, including HSC/LSC & Rebound? I'm thinking maybe go from 84 psi to 89 psi......Thoughts/suggestions?

I don't recommend these. Figured i would warn anyone and share my experience with them. I got them cause of weight and a wide array of color choices - and figured "spd compatible", what could go wrong? At first they were decent at clip-release but after only 5 or so rides they started to get "sticky" and were really hard to release - Even after adjusting to the lowest level. Just not good if you need to get out of them fast. I tried cleaning them and still an issue. I ride in the desert 🌵 So not terrible conditions at all. They don't even spin well on the spindle and seem like the grease used was very thick. I'm removing these and ordered a set of Wolftooth ALT pedals. I had the CTRL version but the pedal base was too wide and i kept hitting rocks. BUT - solid release system. Easy in-easy out and super smooth 👍🏼

Was experimenting with a Fox Gripx 140mm fork and it rode great, but I got the itch to slap on the previous 120mm SID Select+ I first had on it. New Mezcal Tires, had Fast Traks on before. It really is just a rocket ship in this form. It just GOES. Going to likely change the airspring on the Fox to a 130mm. I'm still so impressed by how good this Rockshox Select+ Fork is, despite it not being an Ultimate. No LSC but not needed 👍🏽. Anyone here also bounce around, experimenting with different fork setups?
