When I heard the new album was coming out I never would have thought the press around the album would be so focused on the tape leak. I understand the writing of the record may have brought it out, but for in every interview for IBA, hes letting these interviews bring all that up again? I feel like the budden was part of the THIB promo time, and other interviews during that time he was getting asked to speak on it. Most artists would have their PR teams shut those questions. down. Just surprised it’s getting brought up again, seems like lazy research on the interviewers part.

Holiday OKV and Rock of Stone were getting less spins last weekend but almost a week out and I keep going back to those and they could also be up there as some of the best on the album. Another jammer LP from Kurt has been cemented so all is good.

But what PBGTM did do, is make me realize how solid a record (Watch My Moves) is. Now that’s it’s not his newest full length, I feel like I didn’t appreciate how perfect an album it is, and it’s easily my favorite (for now). I don’t know if you can deliver a more concise record that sums up Kurt Vile and the styles he brings to the table. It has that loose feel (that got even looser on PBGTM) on songs like Hey Like A Child. Cool Water would have easily been a hit if it came out in 1975 by Waylon or Willie but it could also fit right in on Wakin on a Pretty Daze.

Mount Airy Hill is thee KV song for me. It's the slide guitar and the way he delivers the lyrics that really make it. Throw in a long spacey jams, a great Springsteen cover, and then droning instrumentals, and you've basically got everything that makes KV's music special wrapped up in one release. If you slept on this one when it came out or you're just getting into Kurt now after the new album it's absolutely worth revisiting.

I have a friend who is in a dark place with drinking, he is open to help and rehab but I'm having a hard time finding a place that seems like a good fit for him. Does anyone have any recommendations on alcohol counselors or rehab centers?
