I (35M) have been married to my wife "Anna" (33F) for 5 years. We've been trying to have a baby for the last 2 years. We've been through two miscarriages and it's been devastating each time. The first one was at 10 weeks. The second was at 15 weeks. Both times Anna's body went through so much and her heart was completely broken.
I've tried to be supportive. I've taken time off work to be with her. I've held her while she cried. I've gone to every appointment and every ultrasound. I've done everything I can think of to help her through this.
But recently I've been doing a lot of thinking. I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted from the hope and the disappointment. I'm exhausted from seeing the woman I love in so much pain. I'm also scared. I'm scared for her health because the last miscarriage was really complicated and she had complications that required surgery. I'm scared that if we keep trying, something worse might happen.
Last week, I told Anna I think we should stop trying. I said I love her more than anything and I don't want to risk her health or our relationship. I said I'm okay with just being the two of us. I said I want to move forward and find a way to be happy again.
She just stared at me with this empty look. Then she got up and walked away. She's barely said a word to me in a week. She doesn't eat. She doesn't sleep. She's just... gone.
I tried to talk to her again yesterday. She told me I'm a monster for giving up on our dream. She said I'm abandoning her when she needs me most. She said I don't understand how badly she wants to be a mother. She told me to leave her alone.
I feel like I'm not giving up on anything. I'm trying to protect her. I'm trying to protect us. But she sees me as the enemy now.
AITA?
