27M recently diagnosed with hip impingement — surgery now vs. conservative treatment?

Hey everyone, I’m a 27M and was recently diagnosed with hip impingement based on an X-ray. I’m still pretty active and regularly strength train and walk.

I’m trying to figure out how to approach this long term. I’ve been considering whether it makes sense to address it surgically while I’m young and active versus continuing with conservative treatment and only considering surgery if things get significantly worse.

One thing I’m unsure about is whether hip impingement tends to eventually lead to surgery anyway, or if plenty of people are able to manage it long term with PT, strengthening, mobility work, activity modifications, etc.

For anyone who has dealt with hip impingement:
Did you try PT/conservative treatment first, and how successful was it?
If you eventually had surgery, what made you decide it was time?
Anyone wish they had surgery earlier—or wish they had waited longer?
How are you doing now with lifting, sports, running, or other activities?

I’m obviously going to discuss this with an orthopedic specialist as well, but I’d love to hear some real-world experiences from people who have gone through it
