Snake hide update

To the ones that have been following my last post about the Instagram hognose hides. We had to make our own 3D model and one of the members here very kindly 3D printed the hide for me ! All sanded down today and will be getting painted this week with non toxic paints and a non toxic paint sealant to look like our boy!!! Honestly so happy with the process so far and can't wait for the customization to begin :) we couldn't find a stl file anywhere but making our own paid off our boys head is round anyway 🤣

Help with bioactive set up

Hi we have 2 baby hognoses with my partner. We live in the UK and would love to have at least a semi bioactive set up for them.

We have tried the Arcadia prairie and the arid mix 60/40 to sand but they seem to hold a lot of moisture and spike the humidity in their set ups really high. Our boy is currently in a 10 gallon habistat hatchling kit and our girl is in a 20 gallon habistat hatchling kit. The wooden ones.

We tried to put each of them in a 20 gallon but our boy doesn't like the height and stops eating so he will be moved into one as we have it ready but just waiting for him to grow a bit more. We set up both the enclosures without the snakes in them and with the Arcadia substrate sand mixes while our girl was in quarantine right after we got her and while our boy was in a tub reset which was recommended to us by multiple breeders. Both eating well right now.

Anyway back to the real purpose of this post, is there any substrate mixes that someone can recommend to us? We tried both mixes at 2 different times and both times just the top layer dried and the bottom stayed very moist and spiked humidity to 80% + we had heat mats plugged in to try to get the moisture out, had the enclosures open for a month eat and moved the substrate around once a week to try to dry it evenly but they were still just holding so much moisture. Would appreciate any advice as we did give them dig boxes and they both loved them for enrichment. We also want to move away from the dust free aspen we have been using and give them both something more natural :)

Picture of our little boy included for tax ;) p.s. he has a small material cave hide which he only has access to while he is fully supervised
