A Collection of Krags
My Krag collection is probably as complete as it is going to be, for a while. My goal was all types, not all years.
From left to right: Blued blade (1894), Bright blade smooth rivets (1895), Cadet (1900), Intrenching (1900), Bright blade domed rivets (1901), refurb blued, Sedgley, and West Point chromium. Still missing are an 1895 Cadet, and the Bolo, which I'll probably get a repro if I can find one cheap enough. Not likely to buy an original. The blue refurbed is interesting, Hartman's book mentions them but he was unable to find source material for who did them, when, or why. As the rivets are also blued and replaced, that suggests arsenal work, but nothing definitive.
Scabbards are also a thing to chase.
I'm missing the 1st and 2nd modifications, and the very first version of the cadet scabbard. The leather belt keeper on the late 1905 scabbard (narrow clasp) isn't technically correct as that would make it not fit on the 1903 cartridge belt it was designed for, but it was there when I bought it and has been on it a while. Not clear in the picture, but all scabbards are blued, except for the late West Point scabbard (the other one with leather keeper), it is a dark black parkerized.
