Just to tell thanks OE and share my current situation

I have been OE for at least 5 years. The first 3 years were a little unstable. I would get a J2 and then lose my J1, then get another J1 and leave J2, not because of performance issues, but because I was working for software outsourcing companies, which tend to be unstable in most of the cases.

But two years ago, I had the luck of getting both J1 and J2 directly with companies instead of through outsourcing firms, so things became much more stable and the job rotation finally stopped.

Unfortunately, last Friday I had an unexpected call with my J2 boss, and to my surprise he told me that the company is restructuring, shrinking in size, and they will no longer be able to keep me on the team.
He told me he appreciated all the hard work I had done, that my performance was fantastic, and that the decision was purely related to the restructuring.

To be honest, this is the first time I’ve really felt distressed, disappointed, and uncertain. Years ago this kind of situation felt normal to me, but now it hits differently. Maybe because the market is rough right now and I know finding a new J2 may not be easy.

On top of that, this layoff came at a very special moment in my life. I’m currently in the process of buying my dream house, and the operation is going to consume almost all of my savings.
Fortunately, I have other real estate investments that generate monthly rental income, as well as stock investments that I’ve been building for retirement. And of course, I still have my J1, which allows me to pay my bills and even save a little money.

So realistically, what this layoff affects the most is my ability to keep growing my savings. Maybe that’s why I feel so depressed about it. I also have other goals, like making improvements to this new house, so something that should be a moment of celebration buying my dream house feels overshadowed by this bad news.

Anyways, thanks to OE, I still think I’m in a good position overall.
