Fellow Londoners: How do you get around London? Short survey on walking, cycling and travel.

Hi everyone,

I am a PhD researcher at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, studying how people travel around Greater London and how walking, cycling, public transport, and local transport policies may affect health and daily life.

I am looking for London residents aged 18 or over to complete a short anonymous survey about:

  • How you usually travel around London
  • Walking and cycling as part of everyday journeys
  • Barriers such as safety, distance, cost, time, or infrastructure
  • Views on possible transport improvements

It should take around 10–15 minutes to complete.

The survey is anonymous, voluntary, and does not collect identifying information. You do not need to be a cyclist or regular walker; all travel habits and views are welcome.

Thank you very much for your time. I would also be grateful if you could share it with other London residents.

Moving to London or new to the city? How do you get around?

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD researcher at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, studying how people travel around London and how walking and cycling fit into everyday life.

I’m running a short anonymous survey for adults aged 18+ who currently live in Greater London. I’m particularly interested in the experiences of people who are new to London, have recently moved here, or are still working out the most practical ways to travel around the city.

The survey asks about walking, cycling, public transport, travel habits, barriers, and what might make active travel feel safer or easier. You do not need to walk or cycle regularly to take part.

It takes around 6–10 minutes and has received ethics approval from my school.

I’d also be interested to hear in the comments: when you first moved to London, what most influenced how you chose to get around?

Thank you very much for your help.

Cycling in London — what motivates you, and what stops you cycling more?

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD researcher at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, studying active travel and health impacts in London, particularly walking and cycling.

I’m currently running a short anonymous survey for adults aged 18+ who live in Greater London. The survey explores cycling and walking behaviours, motivations, barriers, and views on transport policies.

As this community focuses on cycling in London, I’d be very interested to hear from people here — whether you cycle regularly, occasionally, used to cycle, or would like to cycle but currently do not.

The survey takes around 6–10 minutes and has received ethics approval from my school.

I’d also be interested to hear your thoughts in the comments: what are the main things that motivate you to cycle in London, and what stops you from cycling more?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Women cycling in London, UK - survey: what are your concerns and motivations? [MOD Approved]

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD researcher at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and I’m currently studying active travel in London, especially walking and cycling.

I’m particularly interested in women’s experiences of cycling in London, including what motivates people to cycle, what concerns or barriers they face, and what changes might make cycling feel safer, easier, or more appealing.

As part of my research, I’m running a short anonymous survey for adults aged 18+ who live in Greater London. You do not need to cycle regularly to take part — I’m also interested in hearing from people who rarely cycle, used to cycle, or would like to cycle but currently do not.

The survey takes around 6–10 minutes and has received ethics approval from my school.
