London has this thing where you can live somewhere for three years and still find a street you've never walked down

Happened again last week. Cutting through somewhere I thought I knew well and ended up on this quiet little road with a pub that looks like it hasn't changed since 1987 and a Caribbean spot with no signage that had a queue out the door at midday. This city just keeps going.

When did the standard local in Zone 2 start charging airport prices?

Was in a basic pub in Bermondsey yesterday and got charged £7.20 for a normal lager. Not even a craft beer or anything fancy, just a standard pint. I know London prices are getting ridiculous now, but £7+ for a normal local feels mad. Are sub-£6 pints officially extinct in Zone 2 or am I just going to the wrong places? If anyone still knows decent spots that haven’t completely lost the plot, drop recommendations.

Non-pub quiz

Hiya, I am looking for recommendations for quizzes in London that are not in a pub.

Quite a few people at my work don’t drink/ are not comfortable in pubs. I want to plan a quiz social but am struggling to find any that are not hosted in pubs and fit within a budget of ~£10 per person. I work around Victoria but am happy to transit any where central esque.

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations. I have looked and struggled a lot but was thinking like a quiz in a cinema, restaurant, etc. Anything others have been to would be helpful!

Havering London status

I was born and lived In Havering my whole life, (well I lived in seven kings for the first 3 years) and I am worried that I won't be able to call my self a Londoner, because the council have sided Reform, and Essex being more "white and racist" that we are gonna go to Essex which I would hate, because that means all our buses and trains will go.
If were to happen I don't think that the will remove the lizzy. like cause consider it goes to Brentwood and Shenfield already, which is 100% Essex. But yeah and apparently we are the only borough to side with Reform and one the only ones. A big factor of this is because the Essex mentality and culture that still lurks around. I really don't want to be Essex, not to say I don't like it and it definitely does have its benefits, but | just like East London more, and has always considered Havering to be East London while growing up. And the people can be rude and lovely in East London and Essex. So yeah that's all l have to say.

The night bus at 2am is genuinely one of the most London experiences you can have and nobody talks about it enough

Everyone on that bus got a story. The ones that look like they just finished a shift. The ones that clearly should not have had that last drink. The ones just staring at the window like they solving something in their head. No eye contact from anyone but somehow everyone is fully aware of each other. pure london cinema and its completely free.

Best spots to watch England WC games in London with a crowd and atmosphere?

I'm looking for places with a decent size crowd to watch England World Cup games this summer to get the proper matchday atmosphere. In the past I've done Flat Iron Square (London Bridge), Boxpark Shoreditch, Clapham Grand, Big Penny Social (Walthamstow). All were great but they sell out quickly so looking for more options for me and my mates.

Where have you watched World Cup games in London with a great atmosphere?

This landed in my inbox this week from a Rayners Lane reader: "I live in Rayners Lane and NOTHING ever happens here... It is nice to see there are other things around the area, which gives us a chance to escape the boredom of takeaway city!"

That one is why this newsletter exists. And while you're escaping takeaway city this week:

ELECTION ADMIN DEADLINE (Tuesday 28 April, 5pm): Proxy vote applications and free Voter Authority Certificates must be in by then. If you haven't sorted your photo ID situation, today is the day. [Election details in the newsletter]

TRANSPORT: Piccadilly line is not running between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge today - use the Metropolitan line for that stretch. And next weekend, the Amersham/Chesham/Watford branch of the Metropolitan line also has no service.

WEEKEND PICK: Duck Pond Market at Manor Farm, Ruislip is on Sunday 10am-3pm - first Sunday of the month food and craft market. Worth the walk if you've never been.

Full issue with quiz nights, baby first-aid session, sound bath, networking brunch, and everything else:

Pet of the Week this week is Nova, a rescue dog who needs to be the centre of attention and has an obsession with teddies. Exactly right.

Every month one subscriber wins a £10 M&S gift card. Two seconds to subscribe and you're in.

Help Finding LDN Underground Campaign!

Hello dear Londoners,

I wondered if anyone can help?! I recently saw a mental health awareness campaign on the London Underground - It showed a busy Tube carriage with people socialising. In the foreground was someone who appeared grey, isolated and unhappy, with the caption: “Dave suffers from extreme depression and anxiety (Dave is in the background).” The person actually experiencing the mental health crisis was someone in the background laughing with friends. The message at the bottom was: “Mental health is often masked — check in with your friends.”

…SOMETHING LIKE THAT!

It stood out to me and I’m desperately trying to find it. Does this ring a bell to anyone?! Would really help me out.

Thanks Reddittttt

Big love to london

Finding casual sport in London is broken and I’m tired of it

I’ve just moved back from New York and the difference is painful, we always seem to be behind on simple things like this in the UK as a whole until London builds the solution, I play American football and it’s crazy how there isn’t a centralised platform to connect and play instead of relying on facebook groups and WhatsApp gcs. I’m building a fix lmk if anyone has had the same struggle (this is not London slander)
