Citi AA Globe Card - 6X miles on AAdvantage Hotels - Included In Calculation

Hello! I have a question about the miles earned on an AAdvantage Hotels booking.

This particular stay shows that it will earn 15,000 miles (and Loyalty Points). However, I’ve noticed that the Citi AAdvantage Globe card advertises 6X miles on AAdvantage Hotels purchases.

For example, if the stay costs $500, would I ultimately earn:

15,000 miles from the AAdvantage Hotels booking
+ 3,000 miles from the Citi card’s 6X earning rate
= 18,000 total miles?

Or is the 6X card bonus already included in the 15,000 miles shown on the AAdvantage Hotels listing?

FYI : Midtown Niseko Hotel is now "Mercure Niseko Resort"

I saw a recent post stating they were sold out of rooms for all of January and February. That is not the case.

It appears the property has been sold or rebranded, and the rooms are currently being renovated. Bookings are now available under the new name, Mercure Niseko Resort:

https://all.accor.com/hotel/C6U9/index.en.shtml

Rates look higher than Midtown’s usual prices, although the mockups of the renovated rooms do seem nicer.

One added benefit is that guests can book for the 2027 without a deposit, AND with free cancellation up to 14 days before check-in. Which is tremendously helpful w potential El Nino troubles.

Further US Shipping Woes? New executive order potentially adds even more issues w/ shipping to USA

A new executive order signed this week appears to be another step toward "tightening customs enforcement" specifically around low-value imports and foreign importers of record (aka Shipping Companies).

The order directs DHS/CBP to create stricter importer eligibility rules and requires the shipping companies to remain in “good standing,” increase vetting for importers, customs brokers, freight forwarders and and require more detailed information and paperwork about all goods entering the U.S.

That can include things like ownership disclosures, supply-chain information (where the record was made) product specifications like : composition, size, and production methods to be included as further documentation from the exporter.

For individual buyers and sellers on Discogs. The express carriers like FedEx, DHL and UPS act as the customs broker. If CBP is requiring more detailed data from them. It stands to reason that those carriers will push and ask for more documentation and requirements back onto the sellers in order for the packages to clear.

FedEx just announced a mandatory electronic filing requirement starting July 8, 2026.

I imagine if this is being applied to "every package" - it's going to dramatically slow down for U.S.-bound shipments, especially around the holiday shipping season as this is supposed to take effect in December.

For regular mail / postal companies - this will also mean this documentation will need to be collected by the foreign country's postal system. Which will probably cause the pause on shipping to the US all over again

Odd Request / Question: Appliance Delivery / Pickup Proxy ("key holding")

Weird one. I am not sure that this exists, but I am looking for a service in Tokyo that could help with a furniture rental pickup while I am out of the country.

I was schedule to leave Japan in a 3 weeks, but have to return home fairly urgently. Managed to get everything packed up, cleaned out and sorted in the apartment BUT I have a rental refrigerator in the apartment and it looks like the earliest it can be picked up is next Wednesday.

Curious if there is any sort of legitimate "key holding" company that could come into the apartment, open the door and allow the delivery people to pick up the fridge, and then lock the door and return the key to the mailbox when they are done. Landlord is okay with it.

The apartment will already be fully cleaned out and empty, so fairly simple request. It seems like there are lots of disposal and junk removal services that can do un-attended clean ups and key return, but not sure if that would be applicable. Although, maybe an easy job for them that day.

Any ideas / help would be greatly appreciated!

TL, DR : AA phone rep accidentally disappeared two of my trip credits. After hours on phone and e-mails, AA is unable to fix it. Would appreciate any insight on who to reach out to at American.

------

I recently changed the date of an American Airlines flight over the phone with the EP desk.

Original flight: $600. New flight: $664. Fare difference of $64.

The EP rep suggested I could use one of my existing trip credits to pay for it. I did not think that was possible, but she said we could try. It did not work, so I paid the $64 by credit card over the phone.

When I got the email receipt, I saw that two separate trip credits had also been listed as used, totaling over $300, in addition to the $64 credit card charge. The strange part is that the trip credits did not reduce the cost of the flight or the fare difference at all. They were just listed as having been applied.

When I checked my account, the credits were gone.

I immediately called EP back. Spent two hours on the phone. Pretty brutal. The first hour was just walking the rep through the transaction as she said it was impossible. She eventually checked with a supervisor and came back to confirm that the two trip credits had been incorrectly applied and were somehow not actually used toward the fare. But she could not restore them.

She then brought it to another department. Over an hour on hold again. She came back w/ good news. "The credits have been restored and will now work". I thankfully had her stay on the line while I tried to use them and no dice. She then tried to use them on her end and she got the same result. The flight credits were not restored.

Back on hold. After checking with yet another department, I was told they could not figure out what happened and there was nothing more they could do and sent me to the survey. Very strange to be left with no next steps or info on how to proceed.

I submitted the issue through the “Contact American Airlines” / complaints / trip credit web form, but so far I’ve only received automated responses thanking me for the feedback. I replied to those e-mails trying to reach a human, but no luck.

It has now been a couple of days. Is there a specific American Airlines department, escalation path, or better contact that can actually help restore these credits?

I greatly appreciate any ideas!

Hello. Does anyone know how Systemwide Upgrade waitlists are actually processed? I have a ton of experience making use of SWU's but almost never via the waiting list.

My wife recently requested one for her flight to Japan tomorrow. I randomly logged into AA.com this afternoon and saw confirmed SWU availability on her flight. Since she was already on the waitlist, I assumed her upgrade would have processed automatically.

Nope. Logged into her account and she was still in economy.

I called the Executive Platinum line and they confirmed there was SWU availability, but they could not process her existing request. Apparently, she had to remove herself from the waiting list and reapply it in order to get the seat now (or we could use one of my SWUs instead)

So that’s what we did. I canceled her pending request / spot on Feb waiting list and then immediately applied one of my SWUs while still on the phone.

Which leads me to ask: what is the point of the SWU waitlist?

If someone can just log in a day before the flight and grab an upgrade on their own, does the waitlist actually do anything? I always assumed that once you joined the waitlist, your request would automatically process the moment inventory became available.

Do we think these are manually processed one at a time? Genuinely confused why we had to cancel her request when confirmed SWU availability existed.

Somewhat related: we also signed up for ExpertFlyer’s Elite account for their new real-time SWU alerts. For the third time this week, it did not alert us. The new SWU tool still shows 0 tickets available, but searching “the old way” shows SWU space currently available. So it does not seem to be real-time at all.

Image attached: new tool on bottom, “old” search on top.
