What's one small change that noticeably improved your tumbling results?

I've found that some of the biggest improvements in tumbling come from small adjustments rather than expensive equipment. A change in grit, barrel load, run time, or even cleaning between stages can make a surprising difference.

What's one tip or habit that noticeably improved your results?

One small change that made a noticeable difference in my tumbles

After a lot of batches, one habit that has helped me the most is taking a little extra time to sort rocks by hardness before starting a run. I used to mix everything together and wondered why some stones came out great while others didn't.

It isn't a magic fix, but I've found my results are more consistent now, especially in the later polishing stages.

Which crystal surprised you the most after you brought it home?

I was looking through my small collection today and realized there's one crystal I barely noticed when I bought it, but over time it's become one of my favorites just because I enjoy looking at it.

It made me wonder if anyone else has had the same experience.

Was there a crystal you didn't expect to like but ended up appreciating the most? It could be because of its color, pattern, texture, or simply because you found yourself reaching for it more often.

I'd love to hear what changed your mind about it.

Do you buy crystals in person or online more often now

Feel like I used to only trust buying in person so I could hold the piece first, but lately I've bought a few online just based on photos and it's worked out fine. Wondering if others made that same shift or still prefer seeing it before buying.

Do you rotate which crystals you keep close or stick to the same ones

I used to switch things up a lot depending on mood but lately I've just been sticking to the same two or three pieces for weeks at a time. Not sure if that means I found the right ones or I just got lazy about swapping. Curious how often others rotate theirs.

Anyone else buy something just because the shape was unusual, not the stone itself

Picked up a piece recently mostly because of an odd natural shape, barely even looked at what stone it was until after. Curious if others buy for shape or form sometimes over the actual type of crystal.

What's your actual routine with your crystals, not just owning them

I have a small collection but if I'm honest most of them just sit there. The ones I actually use regularly are only two or three. Curious what a normal routine looks like for people who feel like they use theirs properly.

Started noticing rocks everywhere after getting into this hobby

Never used to look twice at a rock on the ground, now I catch myself picking things up on walks just to check texture and layering. Anyone else's brain permanently rewired after getting into this.

How long did it take before your batches actually started looking good

First few rounds out of my tumbler came out kind of dull and I almost gave up. Getting better now but curious how many batches in it took for others before things clicked.

What's a crystal you didn't expect to like but ended up loving!!?

Went in wanting something very specific that I was convinced my energy needed.....and walked out with a stone I almost skipped over. Now it's the one I reach for the most. Anyone else have a piece that surprised them like that.

Am I the only one who spends way too much time thinking about rock hardness? 😅

I got into rock tumbling thinking I'd just throw some rocks in a barrel and wait. Turns out I'm over here reading about Mohs hardness, bruising, filler, and barrel levels like I'm studying for an exam. 😂

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's made this hobby way more complicated in their head than it probably needs to be. What's one thing you wish you knew when you first started?
