Taxing client

So with this corporate client I have, it’s never come up that I charge tax with my invoices. Should I start adding tax to my charges? I always just took out tax money of the invoice I got.

Am I making the right choice?

Selling my Canon EOS M50 Mark II along with 2 lens, lens adaptor, batteries and battery charger pack thing to get my hands on the Osmo Pocket 3 (or Insta360 Luna Ultra if I have the money by then) since I’m going all in on videography to further my business. I have 2 active retainer clients and 1 beginning soon another waiting to hear back from for an agreement. It’s in my budget right now, either of those cameras. Good cinematic look without the FX3 (for example) price

Help with pricing a big client

So I’m in my first year of professional media production work. This massive sign company that does huge projects hired me to get videos of their projects from start to finish (From design, to fabrication, paint, installation etc) and they value my work, they see the high quality production I deliver to them.

He (The CEO) wants to do a per project rate, instead of the hourly rate I had going with them. (I know.) I deliver fully edited 2-3 minute videos showcasing their process, ready to publish on their website or Linkedin.

I was thinking 800 per video, and with some sort of deposit before any official filming begins because they are dicey with paying me on time since they’re in transition right now and at a growing rate. So I guess what I’m asking for help with is

  1. Is $800 per project good?
  2. What’s the best way to go about some sort of security deposit before I start filming?
  3. If not $800 a project, what, then? This is a big company that’s rapidly growing. They’ve done stuff for H&M, Colleges, hospitals, Disney, etc. this is definitely not a “local company” yes I’m in contact with the CEO despite the companies size but this is a big big company I’m working with.

I want to price myself at a good professional rate, but not overly pricey like I’m the real deal Top videographer in my city, because I’m not

My name is Riley Munson, I use my initials RjM a lot for usernames etc. I’m ramping up a business, I already have two clients. one a local business & one major local business. Both have come to me to grow their visibility & marketing. what name could I use? any ideas? RjM Productions comes to mind for me but I’d love to hear what you guys say. Thanks!

the owner told me to come up with a rate.. theyre a multi-million dollar company. I’m thinking of saying $42/hr as a contractor with them? shooting, editing, travel, marketing, social media management etc all of that. But that is a number I came up with with skimming the surface research. It’s like a 22 min drive to the place.
