How I transported my bicycle 150 km by bus

Last time I posted here asking for suggestions on how to transport my cycle around 150 km. Many people suggested that I ride it because 150 km is not that far for a bike. I couldn’t ride it this time, but many of you gave suggestions and I really appreciate it. I couldn’t reply to everyone, so I wanted to share what I finally did.

How I transported it:

I transported the cycle by bus. I completely dismantled the cycle by following Park Tool’s YouTube videos. Then I wrapped the frame and wheels properly with plastic wrapping and kept them in the bus storage compartment.

After reaching the destination, I reassembled everything. I got one medium-sized scratch between the handlebar and the frame. Other than that, everything looks fine. I’m planning to take it to a local mechanic once and get it checked properly.

My suggestion:

From my experience, if anyone wants to transport a bicycle like this, I would suggest dismantling it and wrapping it properly. Before wrapping, put some sponge or thermocol around the derailleur, under the chain area, seat post and the bottom of the front fork. If possible, put the wrapped parts inside a cardboard box for extra protection.

Disclaimer:

I’m not a professional cyclist or bike mechanic. I just wanted to share my experience because I was really confused about what to do. 150 km is not very far, but it is also not a short distance. I thought about riding it, but I couldn’t do it this time. Finally, I decided to dismantle the cycle and transport it by bus.

Just sharing my experience in case it helps someone else.

How can I transport my Decathlon RS120 bicycle 200 km?

I have a Decathlon Rockrider RS120 bicycle, and I need to transport it around 200 km from my hometown because I’m shifting to a new place.

The problem is that the only direct public transport available to my destination is a passenger train.

So I have a few questions:

  1. Can I take my bicycle on a passenger train as luggage?

  2. Do I need to book the bicycle separately as luggage/parcels?

  3. Can I dismantle the bicycle and pack it like normal luggage, and take it with me on the train?

  4. Can I send the bicycle through a parcel/courier service, or can I take it with me as luggage on a private travels/bus service?Reddit title simple-aa:

How can I transport my Decathlon RS120 bicycle 200 km

Has anyone transported a Decathlon bicycle like this on Indian Railways or a private bus? What would be the easiest and safest option?

Completed my first 90K ride today on RS120

Completed my first 90K ride today (91.15 km). It wasn't my fastest ride because of strong headwinds and a little traffic along the route. But overall it was a good ride .

Is this helmet good for cycling?

Has anyone here used this helmet for long rides? How is the comfort, ventilation, fit, and overall safety? Would you recommend buying it, or should I go with a Decathlon/Rockrider helmet instead?

Need a support

I bought a Decathlon RS120 a while ago. Initially it was great, but day by day I'm facing several issues:

- A loud noise is coming from the brake pads.

- The bike won't shift into the 8th gear.

- Sometimes when I downshift, it drops two gears instead of one.

- I regularly maintain the drivetrain, use a degreaser, and apply dry-weather lube properly.

Has anyone else experienced these issues with the RS120? Any suggestions on how to fix the gear shifting problem and brake noise?
