My grandmother just gifted me this brooch. I'm not sure how long it's been in my family, but I'm pretty sure it's potentially early Victorian. The clasp is very early, pretty sure the metal is brass but I'm unsure if the cabochon is glass or something else. Coral doesn't reflect like this does, and my dad is positive it's carnelian but I don't think it's dark enough. There's no mark, either. If anyone has any pointers or tips on dating pieces like this I'd appreciate it! I'm pretty new to the trade but want to learn anything I can :)
