Although I'd Love To Restore It, I Think I Have To Junk My 1989 Buick Regal
When I was 17/18 a friend gave me a car. It was a 1989 Buick Regal (Blue). As you can imagine a free car at that age is like a Jackpot. He had gotten a new car & was tired of moving it for street sweeping
So he gave it to me. Imagine getting a free car at 17/18? & in my favorite color? I couldn't be any happier. Used to have a Chow Mix & we'd ride around everywhere. Miss you Browny.
Had the car for some time, would break down here & there
Then one night I woke up & went out to the street & my car was wrecked. Drunk driver crashed into it & a bunch of other cars overnight it seemed. Had to junk it
I was then buying cars off Craigslist for la couple of hundred bucks. Anything that I could get quick & knew would last me a couple of weeks. I needed to get to work & all.
Eventually ended up getting a newer car. A 2011 Black Impala. Had that for a while but one night going home from work this Homeless Couple was arguing & ran out into the street. The car in front did a sudden brake & I had braked too put I ended up rear ending the other car. Thankfully everyone was ok but the frame was bent. Total loss.
Silver lining. I remembered that first car I had. Decided to see if I could find another. I was lucky enough that there were 2 out in the wild. One in Boston & South Dakota. I ended up flying out to Boston & bought the car & had it shipped to my home too. I have a new riding buddy & it was my everyday car.
Believe me when I say that I have put so much money into it's repairs but these old cars as everyone here knows is a hassle to maintain proper & finding a decent mechanic that will actually work on Older Cars is almost impossible. I decided after the last repairs that once it broke down on me again, that would be it.
It did about a month or so ago. It's sitting in my driveway now still busted. I got a newer car & that plus a project of making my garage into an ADU is taking up all my finances. I don't want to give the car up but I think I have to let it go. I just wanted to share my Story with this old car that I loved
