My GE is up for renewal so I applied for Nexus. Got this email from a CBSA officer. Need an FBI and State background check.
Searched this sub and saw that nobody else here has had to jump through this many hoops for their Nexus application or renewal. Just my luck. I’ve visited Canada twice in the past 3 months so I’m surprised I’m being asked for this. The officer says it’s normal and common.
I thought the Canadian officers would do this during the interview when they’re side by side with the American officers, but I guess not.
Edit: I applied on July 5, so it’s been 3 months since I applied, which would fall in line with others who’ve been waiting 3-4 months since submitting their applications.

Edit 3: I just called the CBSA Canadian Processing Center at the number for US Residents from this website:

I was told this is a legitimate request by the CBSA officer who answered the phone.
