Imagine Learning About American Presidents the Way You Learned About Stalin
Under Obama, the U.S. massively expanded drone warfare. CFR counted 542 drone strikes authorized during his presidency, estimating roughly 3,797 people killed, including 324 civilians. Even the Obama administration acknowledged using military force across Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Libya and Yemen, while drone operations also took place in Pakistan.
The administration defended these policies as lawful counterterrorism, while critics disputed its civilian-casualty accounting.
None of that makes every accusation against Stalin true. It exposes the difference in framing. Soviet history is often reduced to repression, executions and death tolls; American violence gets buried beneath words like intervention, national security, targeted strike, and collateral damage.
Imagine learning about the American empire from someone who hated it as much as your history textbook hated the USSR.
