Rate or roast my bass pedalboard

Hi everyone, I’m an Italian bass player and I finally finished rewiring my board, so I thought I’d share the full setup and ask for opinions, suggestions, and honest ratings.

The bass is a 1989 Warwick Streamer Stage I 4-string with EMG pickups. The head is a 1995 Ampeg SVT-3PRO, going into an Ampeg PF-210HE 8 ohm cab.

The head is mounted in a Gator 3U rack bag together with a dbx 166A. The dbx sits in the SVT effects loop and I use the two channels in series. Channel 1 is set for light general leveling, while Channel 2 works more like a peak catcher and a very gentle safety/gate stage. Stereo link is off. I try to keep it subtle, so I notice the rig getting tighter rather than hearing obvious compression.

The pedalboard is a Palmer Pedalbay 60, powered by a Palmer PWT-12 MK2 mounted underneath. I’m using Ernie Ball Flat Ribbon patch cables.

Current signal chain:

Korg DT-10 tuner

Boss OC-2 Octave

Z.Vex Woolly Mammoth

Fulltone Bass-Drive Mosfet

JAM Pedals Red Muck Bass

MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter

TC Electronic Stereo Chorus+ / SCF

Boss DD-7 Digital Delay

Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass DI

When I use my own amp, the VT Bass DI is mostly a light EQ and tone-shaping stage. I use it to add a little more edge and presence for slap parts or pick parts, without completely changing the character of the SVT.

When I have to play without my own amp, especially in rehearsal rooms with random backline, the VT Bass becomes much more important. In that case I use it to get as close as possible to my SVT-style sound, with a slightly pushed Ampeg-like character.

The board is meant to cover clean Ampeg tones, octave and synth-like bass sounds, gated fuzz, Muff-style fuzz, envelope filter, chorus/flanger, delay and DI/preamp duties. The Woolly Mammoth is the newest addition and it completely changed the personality of the board.

The cable management underneath is not perfect, but this is the cleanest I could get it for now without proper cable clips or routing accessories. Everything is stable, and the layout finally feels usable.

I’m curious to hear what you think about the layout, the signal chain, the rack compressor in the effects loop, and the overall rig.
