The coloration and some details were a reinterpretation, in my own style, of a concept design provided by the client. I made the loose skin and other soft tissues quite evident (although speculative) around the neck and head, using some modern birds as inspiration. Even so, the overall anatomy still follows what we know about this dinosaur and its relatives.
It lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately between 96 and 89 million years ago, in what is now Mongolia. With a relatively considerable amount of preserved fossil remains, it is possible to infer that it had a robust and deep-bodied build, with size estimates ranging between 4.5 and 5 meters in length and a weight of 250 to 300 kg, making it one of the largest known members of the Dromaeosauridae.
Its name means “Achilles’ hero” and combines “Achilles” (tendon associated with the famous sickle claw of these animals) with “baatar,” the Mongolian word for “hero.”
