What actually drives follower growth on Instagram in 2026?

I have been working on improving Instagram growth for a while now and I am a bit confused about whats actually holding things back.

Most of my reels are getting decent reach ( a few thousand views) good retention and likes but the follower count moves. It feels like people are watching but not really connecting enough to follow.

I have tried different hooks, trending audio, SEO keywords, captions, and posting times but the pattern stays pretty similar.

At this point I am starting to wonder if good content alone is not enough anymore and maybe there are other factors affecting whether people decide to follow or just keep scrolling.

Has anyone here used any instagram growth trick and actually seen real long term results instead of just vanity metrics?

What actually worked for you when you were stuck at this stage?

I work in HR full time, and on the side I also manage a couple of Instagram pages, so most of my days are a mix of emails, meetings .. spreadsheets and then content planning after work.

A few months ago I was spending way too much time trying to grow those Instagram pages manually and honestly it started feeling exhausting after a full workday. Later I started using a system that helped take some of the pressure off and it genuinely helped my Instagram accounts grow more consistently without me stressing over!

The strange part is that while trying to become more productive and organized I also slowly collected a lot of subscriptions and random services along the way. Some were useful and some I barely even used anymore..

Recently I came across a much simpler way to deal with all those unnecessary subscriptions and it honestly made me realize how much mental energy gets wasted on things sitting in the background. Notifications, renewals, emails, checking settings, remembering what is still active and what is not. Individually they seem small, but together they create a surprising amount of mental clutter.

Honestly I did not expect simplifying all of that to make such a noticeable difference mentally.

I think good systems really can help make work easier and reduce stress but having too many unnecessary things running in the background eventually creates another kind of mental clutter too.

Please share your experience with me ?

I recently went through my bank statements and realized I had more subscriptions than I expected.

A lot of them started at different times when I was trying out some systems for productivity, Instagram growth Facebook and content planning and other online work related things. Some of them are very useful for growth specially for instagram growth but I eventually stopped using them or completely forgot they were still active.

The surprising part is that a few of them were still getting charged every month without me noticing.

Now I am trying to go back and cancel everything I do not use anymore but it is turning out to be more time consuming than I thought. Some are easy to cancel but others are buried in settings or require logging into places I have not opened in a long time.

It made me realize how quickly these small recurring payments can build up quietly over time.

Is there actually a quicker way people usually handle this kind of subscription cleanup instead of going through everything one by one?
