Hello everyone, I’ve had this thought in my head for a very long time: why is Linux free and so high quality?

I use Pop!_OS, and I don’t understand why they don’t make it paid or at least do something like “buy our laptop with Pop!_OS preinstalled.” But okay, Pop!_OS makes money from selling notebooks.

But what about KDE, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Void Linux, Ubuntu—why are they free? It’s great that they are free, but who are these kind people sitting at their computers and working for free? Why do you do this?

Hi everyone, I want to buy a used ThinkPad, but I don’t know which one is best. I code in Rust, and I want a laptop that feels nice to the touch, has a good screen, and is powerful enough. I use Linux, so a Mac is out of the question. I’m not sure if a ThinkPad is the right choice—I have an E490, and I’m happy with everything about it except the processor. It’s a bit old, so I want to upgrade, but I’m not sure if a ThinkPad is the way to go. Can you recommend a laptop that will run well on Linux and meet the criteria listed?

Hello everyone! I have a ThinkPad E490 with an Intel i5-8265U. I'm planning to buy a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with an Intel Ultra 9-275HX and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060. My system on the ThinkPad is very well configured, and I have a lot of software installed and customized, so I don't want to set everything up from scratch on the new laptop.

Is there any way to transfer my entire system and data to the new laptop? Simply moving the SSD won't work because my ThinkPad uses a SATA SSD, while the Legion uses an M.2 SSD.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I installed pop os and for some reason in nvim there is a double deletion (2 characters are deleted at once), but when I use the standard cosmic terminal, everything works fine, what could it be?
