Ignored email list verification for 2.5 years and now half my list is dead

Small service business here. I started collecting emails in 2023 through a website popup, some Facebook lead ads, and a physical sign-up sheet at a few local events. Never bothered verifying any of them. Just dumped everything into Mailchimp and started sending monthly newsletters.

Open rates have been dropping steadily, so I finally decided to look into it. Ran a deliverability check using Mailchimp's tools and realized a big chunk of my list is either bouncing, inactive, or full of addresses that were obviously entered wrong. I've basically been paying for a contact tier that includes hundreds of dead addresses.

What's the quickest way to clean this up, and is this something I should be doing regularly?

How long does it take to break even on a micro market machine?

I'm running the numbers on a micro market setup and trying to land on something realistic before I commit. Everything I find either skips the math or uses obviously optimistic assumptions. Hardware is part of it, but there's also software, processing, and inventory to factor in.

Has anyone actually modeled the break-even point for a single unit?
