Need help identifying leather on this sofa for cleaning and conditioning
Please help me identify the type of leather on this sofa and the best ways and products to clean and condition it.
It is about 23 years old and I have no information from the original purchase about the leather.
Water drop test: A drop of water placed on the exposed leather soaks in immediately. But, on the leather sample under the seat, a drop of water sits on the leather surface for a few seconds before soaking in slowly.
I know the grease spots will likely never be removed. I just want to clean what I can and condition it so it will last.
Some seats have a crackly appearance like the top layer has cracked. Hopefully, conditioning will halt the deterioration.
My spouse tried to clean some spots, but only darked those areas. They also used some leather coloring to try to hide the seat crackling.
If there are professional ways to remove the grease and fix the crackling, I’d be interested in hearing about that, but I don’t have any professional leather cleaners nearby.
