$850 housing grants for Morehouse, Central State, and Wilberforce students living off campus (apply by Oct 8)

Hi r/HBCU,

We are Scholarship America, the nonprofit administering the Bilt + John Legend Scholarship for Student Housing Security. Students at Morehouse College, Central State University, and Wilberforce University can apply for a one-time $850 grant toward off-campus housing costs. The program is also open to students at the University of Pennsylvania.

The grant is meant to help students stay enrolled when rent becomes hard to cover. You may be eligible if you meet all of the following:

  • You are currently enrolled at one of the four partner schools.
  • You live off campus and pay rent to someone outside your family.
  • You receive need-based financial aid.
  • You are facing housing insecurity that could affect your enrollment.

Applications are reviewed in the order received. They close October 8 at 4:00 pm ET, or sooner if funds run out, so applying early matters. You will need your school email address, your current course schedule, and your lease agreement.

Apply here: https://scholarshipamerica.org/bilt-and-john-legend-scholarship-for-student-housing-security/

For questions, email biltandjohnlegend@scholarshipamerica.org or call (507) 931-1682.

If you know a student at one of these schools who could use this, please share it with them.

There's a scholarship covering AI certification costs for small biz employees — worth knowing about

One of the things that comes up a lot in this community is the cost of upskilling your team, especially when it comes to AI. Wanted to flag a scholarship that directly addresses this.

The Smart Futures for Small Business Scholarship gives $250–$1,000 to employees of small U.S. businesses who enroll in an AI certification program this year.

Why it matters for entrepreneurs: AI literacy is increasingly table stakes — whether it's using AI for marketing, operations, sales, or customer service. But the courses aren't cheap. This removes that barrier for you or your team.

Eligible programs include things like:

·       Generative AI for Business Applications

·       AI for Marketing & Sales

·       Advanced Prompt Engineering for Business Users

·       Business Intelligence / Data Analytics

Eligibility: Must be an employee of a U.S. small business (≤500 employees, for-profit, non-franchise), at least 18, and enrolling in an AI cert program by September 2026.

Application deadline: June 10, 2026.
