N00b's opinion: Sniper Elite Resistance.
Hi peeps,
Firstly, as stated in the title, I'm a Sniper Elite n00b.
For context, I only just purchased (And completed) Sniper Elite 4 this month. And now I've just started playing S.E.R , so this is only my 2nd SE game.
I really enjoyed playing Sniper Elite 4 on my Xbox Series X. The controls felt fantastic, the graphics were good (Despite being last Gen). The story was a bit boring, but overall I had a jolly time.
Then I switched to playing Sniper Elite Resistance, and, oh dear!
Firstly the positives, the graphics are great IMO. There weapons are customizable which adds longevity, and I appreciate that you don't have to press the Right trigger button to tag every enemy now.
Now the negatives.
The game seems extra hard. Now for reference I'm a n00b, so I just played it on the default normal mode (Marksman I think it's called) and I died several times on the first mission 😆 Their aim seems extra good compared to SE4. (I know peeps on here can probably beat the game on Authentic mode with their eyes closed, but I find a bit hard for normal mode at least).
When downing an enemy with my rifle, the computer enemies hang around for AGES 'investigating' . Sometimes I feel they have wall hacks and know exactly where my character is - despite never firing a followup second shot and being nowhere near me when I fired the initial shot. Now admittedly, on SE4 I used a suppressed rifle, the delisle carbine. So maybe it was my stealthy approach which helped me so much in SE4
Running: I hate having to press down on the left thumb stick to sprint, it aggravates my tendonitis.
No more rock to throw as a distraction, just a whistle to use? I want to coax enemies away from my location, not bring them to me! Especially since I'm always low on ammo. WTF!!
Booby trapped an enemy. It gets tired REALLY fast trying to booby-trap an enemy, only for the notification to disappear at the worst time. Then you end up 'whistling' by accident and drawing more enemies to your location.
Customization of weapons. Yes it's good in theory and I appreciate this. But it never explains what to do or encourages you to upgrade your weapon. Yes I know the upgrades are more or less self-explanatory, but it should still offer a small guide.
Player invasion: I love this aspect of the game. HOWEVER, it appears everyone who invades my games appear to be seasoned and hardened veterans 😑 Yes I know I can switch the mode off, which I do when I want to progress in tricky bits of the campaign.
Voice actors. I played the 2nd level, where you meet the 'French resistance' and OMG, it was like listening to caricatures 🫤 There's no way they were native French speakers. Their accents reminded me of that 1980's BBC sitcom 'Allo Allo' (Good Moaning 🤭).
So anyway, my opinion is a bit tongue and cheek. But I feel on balance SE4 is a superior game in all aspects.
Peace.
