I am not a cellular tech person.

Has anyone purchased the $99 annual talk/text plan, then switch to WIFI calling (in Canada) before traveling abroad for an extended time? Has this worked or is Roam beyond a prerequisite to receive calls abroad?

Freedom is trying to sell me the basic monthly plan which includes Roam Beyond... just want to be able to get the odd inbound call using WIFI only while away.
