Please help my tax adverse brain
Hey guys - I’m trying to figure out a new strategy to use while filling out my W-4 for a new sales job with a new employer, and just really need some guidance. Im single, no dependents, annual base salary of $85k, but have a variable (commission) of $148k - so total OTE of $233k/yr. I want to minimize withholding so I can invest the extra money in each paycheck to allow my own funds to make money, rather than give the government an interest-free loan. I’m afraid of owing a shit ton of money though in April. What should I claim on my W-4? I have heard that I can technically claim 1-3ish dependents on there, but idk what to expect or what that would do. Please help :) OH - if this helps, I live in TX, have no more student loan debt, and am also apparently doing it all wrong with benefits (such as 401k/ Roth IRA) to maximize my money. Any/all advice is advised - I don’t have a mentor in my life that would truly give solid helpful advice with things like this and don’t have a father figure or anyone to really go to about this…..and I spent hours looking for YouTube videos on this specific situation and have also asked AI agents who have refused to give solid advice :-/
