Sensor is 3 days old. Would you replace now?
My wife’s birthday was on Saturday so we went out to eat. I had been doing fairly well in keeping my BG in check so I figured why not indulge a bit. We ate some sushi and I also had chicken teriyaki with brown rice. My blood sugar spiked to about 250 afterwards but it came back to baseline of 90-100 a couple hours later after some exercising, etc. The next day I wake up to get ready for work (4pm, I work night shift) then my blood sugar spikes again to 250?? The highest I have seen my bg rise from dawn phenomenon was about 180. Will my meal from Saturday night impact my blood sugar almost 24 hours later? This is so unfair, I already did my time for my cheat meal!
Replaced my sensor around 1pm today. I have tried soaking for a hour, 12 hours and 20 hours in the past. I have tried placing the sensor in different locations. Always a struggle with a new sensor🥲
I was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 months ago and have been making strides in getting my glucose levels under control. I work overnight shift from 5p-4am. It seems like everyday around 4pm my blood sugar spikes pretty high, i’m assuming it’s my dawn phenomenon. What should I be doing to keep this under control? I wake up at 3:30pm and I do about 20 mins of calisthenics before heading to work. I don’t eat anything to break my fast but I’m still spiking to 190+ during my drive in to work and it settles down during my first hour or 2 at work. After I got off work this morning, I did eat some eggs and avocados around 8am then went to sleep at 9am but I still spike everyday around 4pm when I wake up for the day even if I don’t eat anything before bed. Any tips or help is appreciated. Is it normal for dawn phenomenon to spike glucose levels this high? I am on 500mg metformin daily and 13 units of Lantus once every night before bed. Thank you!
How long do you guys typically wait before deciding a sensor is bad and need replacing? My first 4 sensors with Dexcom all worked perfectly but now my last 3 sensors have all failed back to back to back. 2 of them started giving me erratic readings and 1 sensor just failed out of the blue about 3 days in. I requested a total of 3 replacements already and it looks like this new sensor will fail as well since the readings all over the place and it’s been 22 hours since I inserted it. How many replacement sensors can you request from Dexcom? Any tips on getting these sensors to work better? Should I try moving new sensor to a different location? So far I have been doing the back of my upper arm. Thank you
Pic 1 is new sensor, pic 2 is old sensor.
I replaced the sensor around 11pm last night after soaking for a couple hours. First 3-4 hours, everything was good and it picked right up where my previous sensor left off. Early thing morning, I started getting bad readings that were 40-60 points off my finger prick test. Sensor is over 24 hours old at this point, should I just replace the sensor or maybe give it some more time to settle? I have tried calibrating multiple times but it doesn’t seem to be fixing the issue.
I would’ve been so disappointed if Team Charlie won. Glad to see Nikki and Maddy made it to the end!
I made a post about a week ago where my CGM was off by almost 50% compared to a finger prick test. I spent the last 4 days in the ER due to an unrelated trauma and I started to notice that my CGM was more accurate against the hospital’s glucometer, I assumed it was because I was now getting over that 24 hour calibration window. For example, my CGM would read 75 and the hospital test was 83 and it was pretty consistent throughout my 4 day hospital stay.
Now I’m back at home and I seem to be having an issue again. Today, I get a ton of alarms from the CGM for low blood sugar readings 55-70 but my glucometer is showing 105-110. I am using a Freestyle Libre 3 and a Freestyle Lite.
Why is my Libre 3 plus readings so far off? Multiple times today I got a warning of my bg being under 70 mg/dL and each time I did the finger prick test which came back around 115-120. Is it possible I got a bad sensor? I applied this sensor about 24 hours ago. I am newly diabetic and trying to figure this all out. Any advice is appreciated.
