My Easter Egger Dorothy was broody so we decided to let her sit on 4 eggs. Frankly, I actually didn't expect them to hatch because I thought I sucked at candling the eggs. The chick is maximum 24 hours old. How long do we wait before we pull the other three eggs and consider them failed? I've read that if they hatch too far apart, it won't be good.

Currently, mama and chick are doing well. She's being a good mama and the other hens are giving them space. Not that she's letting the other hens too close.

She's still sitting on the other eggs and keeping the chick close.

Rooster is a Bielefelder, and the chick has the same coloring as my olive eggers did at that age.

Also, yes, I squealed with pure excitement when I went to collect eggs and saw this little baby. I just wanna go love on it, but mama is not a fan and I'm not going to be a butthead human 🤣

I'm slowly rewilding and turning my island into a D&D style world. So when I got the bunny garden decoration from a balloon, I absolutely had to put it in front of the cave area I've been working on.

EDIT: It's almost certainly their indoor area being darker than outside, despite being used to the indoor area. We're putting in a light to help.

These are our meat birds, finally out in their run. Last night enough of them wanted to sleep in this corner, no matter how much we tried to push them inside their coop. They have way more than enough roosting space in their coop.

This morning we found one dead under the pile so we've stacked bricks up to at least make it so they can't climb on top of each other.

Any idea why they're being so ... Stupid? Other than just chickens being chickens?

Breeds, if important: Aquilas (black), Steel Blue Novas (the grays), Delawares (all whites), and Rainbow eggers (white with black spots).

I think I'll go out and try to move them inside when they're asleep because I'd rather not wake up to another dead one.

I went into the feed store to get more chicken feed. . . And there were 15 chicks that they were giving away for free since they're almost fully feathered and trying to escape.

So I got chicken feed, and 15 more chickens to feed.

(Yes, I know I'm using a heat lamp. It's one we built mounted into the wall. No chance of falling).

She showed up today and requested an outfit fit for a fairy tale. I'm actually interested to see what she'll give me.

And it's another fucking Vampire Outfit. My FOURTH one from her.

Personally, I think Label just clearly has a thing for vampires.
